Gospel Treason: Betraying the Gospel with Hidden Idols

This book is extremely beneficial to my spiritual walk. Too often we don't think about the things that hold us back from our relationship with the Lord, but after reading this I am able to step back and really analyze how I am living. This book is sound in doctrine and a great book that I think everyone should read at least once! Our whole church has been reading this and it has sparked a ton of conversations and changes in our congregation.

Honestly, I bought this book because of the reviews, but didn't pick it up for a few months because of the title and cover. It just didn't connect with me! But, I kept seeing it referred to by authors I respect, so I finally picked it up and read it. I am so glad I did! I've been very blessed by hearing the author teach at conferences and this book didn't disappoint at all. It is quite engaging, insightful, and full of truth about the nature of the human heart yet it is also filled with compassion for the pain of life. But most importantly, this book is a powerful tool that God can use to transform lives. As a counselor and a teacher, I have now taken many people through Gospel Treason. At times it is hard to read simply because the author exposes our hearts with great clarity - but that is our best hope for change. Gratefully,. he doesn't leave us there. Throughout the book he reminds us of the powerful love and grace of Christ, urging readers to gaze on the beauty of Christ's love more than on the struggles in their hearts. Through the study of this book, each person (including me!) has become more like Christ and with greater joy, better relationships, and a more stable walk. In my opinion, this book will become a staple, one of the foundational books in the realm of soul care. Get it! If you are serious about honoring Christ and finding true joy, you won't be disappointed!

This is the best book I have read on understanding and diagnosing and attacking idolatry of the heart. And there’s a lot of good books on the Christian bookshelf! Practical throughout, biblical to the core, and a page turner that keeps you reading. Brad Bigney has hit the bull’s-eye of dealing with idolatry in the heart and I recommend it to anyone and everyone who wants to be free and love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.

When I first started attending biblical counseling conferences, it didn’t take long to realize why Brad Bigney’s teaching sessions were always packed out – because he has a way of communicating that leaves you edified, energized and eager to pursue the Lord with everything you’ve got. It came as no surprise, then, to see that Gospel Treason is jam-packed with help for eradicating the root cause of so many of our struggles: the idols in our hearts. The hard truth is our hearts are inclined to cling too tightly to our desires, even good ones. We sin to get what we want, or sin in response to its absence. Thankfully, Brad doesn’t leave us gazing at our navels in self-condemnation, but faithfully points us to the gospel in a way that lights the way of escape. One particularly powerful quote is going on the fridge today: “Whose yoke are you wearing right now? Is it a good fit? Has sin deceived you? Is the thing you thought would lead to joy and freedom turning into a prison of your own making? That can all end today. Jesus is calling. He’s ready to shatter the yoke of idolatrous sin in your life, and to take the yoke with you in a way that fits like nothing else. Don’t you want that?”Yes, I do indeed. I plan to read Gospel Treason multiple times and to recommend it to friends and counselees.

It's a great read and helps put things in to a more spiritual perspective. I would recommend this read.

Idolatry is most often referenced in the Bible which tells us how important it is to God. This book is the best I've read on the subject of idolatry and it deeply convicted me of the condition of my own heart. I highly recommend this book.

This book points out how idolatry has affected our hearts and our relationship with God the Father. We have idols, we just don’t recognize them, and those idols that we cling to are holding us back from a deeper relationship with God.

Eye-opening, life-changing. Highly recommended only to those who mean to live their life for the Lord

Brilliant for self counselling or counselling a friend. A book I would recommend every Christian should read.

A fantastic book full of conviction and inspired by the holy spirit! It will stir up the change in you and force you to see yourself as you really are: wretched and depraved but for God's undeserved mercy. Thank you Jesus!
