5 Stars...Great for Polishing Sterling Silver Jewelry
I have some very old sterling silver jewelry that just wasn't responding to a silver polishing cloth very well. I also made the mistake dipping my piece of in a silver dip (liquid form) and thought I had ruined it forever. Since I do not own a dental or jeweler's lathe but have experience of using a lathe with a cotton wheel and rouge in a dental lab, I took an inexpensive route and purchased the Enkay Polishing Buff and a stick of jeweler' s rouge. My dear husband mounted his trusty 50 year old, single speed, cast aluminum Craftsman drill on his bench vise so that the wheel would be vertical (just like a lathe) then tested the spin direction so that the bottom of the wheel was spinning away from me--I didn't relish the idea of the possibility of cotton lint flying in my face! Next I turned on the drill and applied rouge until it evenly colored the wheel. I held the piece of jewelry NEAR THE BOTTOM of the wheel and polished using a LIGHT, GENTLE touch on the wheel. Warning: DO NOT hold your piece to be polished near the top 12 OClock or 3 OClock position or it could possibly fly out of your hand, trust me, I know!. I had a carved design in my jewelry so I did not over-polish and ruin the patina so I was careful. So far, no swirl marks. Rouge was all I needed for a beautiful job. With gentle pressure on the wheel, there was no lint nor any tangled threads in my jewelry. Since I am novice in polishing sterling jewelry, I sure would like some feedback from silversmiths--any out there? For now, I will stay away from polishing sterling that is any where near a stone, such as turquoise.

No problems with Screw works well
Ok so to the reviews that say the holding mechanism does not work well : If you turn the drill into the correct direction you will not losen up the disk. It worked very well for me , but the material disintegrates rather quickly over some surfaces and leaves wool flying around. 4 Stars and it's cheap !

Effective but messy and not durable
Good: Delivery was fast, price was right, it allowed me to finish my project in that same weekend.Bad: Construction/material of this wheel seems to be lightweight in extreme; when I fired up the buffer to polish some of sheet metal (fairly flat, no major protrusions or sharp edges) my workshop near-instantly filled with bits of fiber floating all over the place. Even a fairly generous use of buffing compounds didn't do much to keep it down. At the end I finished the project, but the buffing wheel looked like it's been through hell and every surface in my workshop was covered in very fine fluff. (I've used similar buffing wheels of other makes in the past on similar projects, and never witnessed this rate of rapid deterioration). So, it got the job done - but it just won't last.

Works great but disintegrates immediately - One use only!
It's the perfect size for what I wanted to do with it, which was buff out a pair of faded headlights and using buffing compound for plastics, this buff wheel did do it's job, but! It pretty much started to disintegrate immediately and was pretty much done for by the time I finished the second headlight. Was it worth it? Well, a few bucks for this and the compound as opposed to replacing the headlights, yeah, it was worth it. But 3 stars for falling apart so quickly.

Enkay 164-C 4-Inch Polishing pad
Haven't used it yet. But I like the fact that I can use it as attachment to drill, since I have severe carpul tunnel in both hands. The least I like about it is that I thought I could use the whole flat part but can't or it will scratch car. And the part you can use is thin.

Buffing wheel does the job well. The only issue ...
Buffing wheel does the job well. The only issue is when you first use it there is a lot of fuzz being flung from the wheel. Once you use it a few times the fuzz stops being flung. This buffing wheel can be used with a regular hand drill.

Could have been better
This is just OK. I can't get the screw tight enough on this. When you release the trigger on a Dewalt (and probably most newer battery drills) the brake stop ends up working the screw lose. This has even happened to the point of the screw and washer falling off. Pad material is fine though.
