Weird and unique take on mermaids
I just loved this story. I was hooked on the world Carlton M. Was creating around this way of life and the character’s personal struggles. The end is a bit wonky but still a very fun book. Now this is a story I’d like to see adapted into a movie!

Excellent Bizarre Horror
Going in to Village of the Mermaids, I had very little experience with bizarro fiction and no experience whatsoever with Carlton Mellick III. I walked away from this encounter well pleased with both. Part of this is because however strange Village gets, the core of the story is an intriguing mystery. Why have the mermaids at Siren Cove stopped eating their human(ish) food supply and turned to attacking the men of the island. This mystery keep me turning the pages of Mellick's brief novel, and the truths at the heart of the mystery are both wonderfully, well, bizarre, while also being incredibly satisfying. The mermaids themselves are also fascinating. I could read many more stories about them or about the other "mimics," animals that imitate human appearances to attract prey, that are alluded to in this book.Overall, this is an excellent read, and I highly recommend it. I will definitely read more by Mellick, although I will probably approach with coffin, as I get the feeling this story was somewhat tame in comparison to some of his other works. As it is, I recommend Village of the Mermaids to both mystery and monster fans alike.Review originally posted to Goodreads.

🎃👻 Book #13 for #Halloween2021 🎃👻"Village Of The Mermaids" by Carlton Mellick IIIDr. John Black has a job to do before Zimmer's disease removes him from the earth; travel to Siren Cove to assist with a unique problem they're having. What wasbelieved to be a simplistic problem with the merchow has now turned serious and it's up to Dr. Black to figure out why the mermaids will no longer eat them. The horrifying answer is that these mermaids arent the same mermaids indengious to Siren Cove. They are stronger and much more brutal and they have the ability to lure men in from much farther inland than before. New mermaids mean new food preference which is anything but good for the island. Without merchow that these mermaids will eat, the people of Siren Cove face a terrible dilemma; provide a new food source immediately or become the new food source themselves. This was a unique take on mermaid folklore that I really enjoyed and the version I have offers a deleted scene that I hope will one day be made into a prequel. Mellick always leaves me feeling a little speechless with his writing and this story was no different. 3.5 🌟

Another unique imaginative story from CM3!
Reading a Carlton Mellick III book for me is always an adventure, one where even though I've read the premise, I'm still not sure what I'll be reading. CM3 has a way to take the most outlandish ideas and present them in a matter of fact kind of way. The story just flows with all that weirdness casually making its appearance throughout the story. He knows how to space that out without assaulting you with random chaos and that's one of the reasons I love his writing. With this story, there is a bizarre Lovecraft feel to it while still being unique. He took that and upped things up a notch by creating the various mutations on the mermaids and the mermen. I think all of Mellick's work is consistently good so its very hard for one piece to really stand out from the others. That's not a bad thing at all though, it just shows that he's trusted time and time again to bring out awesome stories that will amaze you. Village of the Mermaids gets my thumbs up and I had a blast reading it.

Fantastic read. Was very crossfaded last night and read the whole thing
As always, Carlton has impressed me with a unique story unlike any I've ever read. When I was a child, I was obsessed with mermaids and read every book I could find at the public library, school library, and used books stores. I can honestly say that this novel was unlike any mermaid story I've ever read, it was so refreshing to read something new. I stayed up all night and soaked with a Jojo Siwa cotton candy bath bomb while reading this book. I highly recommend this book and will probably force my partner's to read it like I did with Dairy Queen

STAY OUT OF THE WATER!!!
CARNIVOROUS MERMAIDS?SERIOUSLY?I've been waiting my entire life for this book!Ever since my mother read Andersen's "The Little Mermaid" to me - (the NASTY version that involves sorrow and death, NOT singing crustaceans!) - I've been fascinated by these half lady/half piscis creatures.Let's face it, mermaids have always been treacherous sirens, using their feminine wiles to lure sailors to a watery grave, and FINALLY, one author dares to expose them for what they really are....HUNGRY!The villagers of Siren Cove fear these moist bimbos, and why shouldn't they? Thanks to the Endangered Species Act, mermaids have more rights than the villagers. Killing the fishy broads is illegal, so the townsfolk can do little more than cower in their shanties, hoping to resist the fragrant allure of the mermaids. This book is chock-a-block with all kinds of stuff you'd probably rather not know, like the Viagra-like effect of mermaid pheromones on the average male. Or, inventive recipes for preparing Merchow. Or, that male mermaids are hung like...well, (sea)horses...Or, maybe you DO want to know.If so, read this book. It's a great, though occasionally cringe-inducing, page-turner.

Not as weird as normal
This is an unusual, but pretty much professional and "normal" horror story. I enjoyed it.

Enjoyable Trash
Mellick could be a great writer, he has some good ideas but he goes beyond escapism into ludicrosity.I read this book in about a day despite being a slow reader, partly because it's so short and partly because it kept my attention throughout. At £6.66 (so edgy, lol) the book is a little over priced based on its length and my dissatisfactions with the last quarter, which I won't go into detail about because of spoilers. So yeah buy the cheaper ebook or pick it up when its on sale, is my advice.
