Must Have Music will re-release Eilen Jewell's third album, Sea of Tears, a recording that filled in a vital, hitherto missing element of her musical persona. "Before I discovered Woody Guthrie and folk music," she explains, "I was listening to Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and, later on, the Animals and the Kinks. I love that stuff, and I love to play it." With Sea of Tears, Jewell and her longtime band of Jason Beek (drums, harmony vocals), Jerry Miller (electric, acoustic, and steel guitars), and Johnny Sciascia (upright bass) wed her elegantly unflinching songwriting with a rustic, pre-Beatles swagger that encapsulates vintage R&B, Midwestern garage rock, Chicago blues, and early rock and rockabilly, while maintaining the haunting, folk-inspired purity that first made her an artist to watch.

MY BEST DISCOVERY OF YEAR
Thanks amazon for your mail shots. Recently, you suggested I might like listening to Eilen Jewell. Dead right - forget the Rumer - this is the best female voice I have listened to in 2010. I bought this and Letters From Sinners and Strangers (they arrived the same day). Both are truly magnificent (and I don't say that very often). Highly recommended. Finally, I hope she wouldn't be offended by the comparison but occasionally the timbre of her voice reminded me of Doris Day (and that's intended to be the highest compliment).

Mellow Music
It was an outside chance I saw something about Eilen Jewell and an easy bit of research got me to liking what I heard. This album arrived and it is great: very mellow, easy listening - with an excellent surprise version of the old Johnny Kidd & the Pirates song "Shaking All Over".Love this girl.

BRILLIANT
Less country than her previous releases, this is tremendous material. There's a Johnny Kidd and The Pirates feel to "Sea of tears" the track. The guitarist is up there with anyone you care to mention.

SHE'S NEW TO ME BUT SHE'S GREAT
I was totally unaware of Eilen Jewell until I stumbled across her selection of albums during yet another day of COVID 19 lockdown. The eclectic range of styles her music covers is pretty phenomenal and the great thing is that her voice seems to fit like a glove into all those styles she does too. I initially needed to download a thorough mix of all her styles, so went on a cherry-picking trip of tracks through a range of her albums to get myself properly acquainted with all her musical persona's. I downloaded 3 tracks off this album to add to another 14 from her other albums. The most amazing find out of those on this album was 'Shaking All Over' penned by the old British rock-n-roller Johnny Kidd - of 'Johnny Kidd & The Pirates' fame - back in the early 1960's. I know many have done versions of that song - even Iggy Pop - but Eilen's version is so good and so empathetic to the original release that it proves to me that she can do any sort of music she puts her mind to. Her eclectic range of musical abilities does remind me of Rosie Flores, who used to mix it up by doing everything from Folk to Country to Rockabilly to Tex-Mex to Bluegrass and to Blues. I don't know if Eilen has tried her hand at Tex-Mex but have no doubt that she would do a good version of that too.Eamonn
