Unsafe without alterations! Instructions for alteration to make it rat-safe
Many of the reviews on the US site claimed this was dangerous for their pets, and I can see why. The lining is very easy to tear and it would be easy for pets to catch their limbs in. Additionally, the foam is easy to tear as well and could easily make a BIG mess and, if ingested, be fatal.HOWEVER if you are good at sewing and have a lot of time on your hands you can do what I did to make it safe for my rats:Turn the body inside outCut out all the lining with a pair of scissorsTear out the foam (this is very easy to do by hand, remember to get all the bits round the seams and edges as any ingestwd could be dangerous). At this point the only layer of fabric lining all the inside should be the outermost layer.Sew a couple of layers of fleece into the base of the body (once a couple of holes are nibbled toes and feet could get caught in them. Reinforcing with fleece will help prevent this as well as let this toy last longer between cleans due to better absorbance)Lastly: cut a slit in the end of each leg and feed the plastic hoop out - your pet could get caught in these.Optional: I used an eyelet punch and seam ripper to make eyelet holes in the top of the head and the end of each tentacle, this makes it easier to hang it up and make it an exciting toy.Note - I am not familiar with ferrets so if you have bought this for ferrets your mileage may vary, but the above done properly should make it safe for rats. This was originally purchased by my partner who was not aware of the potential dangers - unless you are good at sewing and REALLY want this toy in your cage then there are better alternatives out there. Also the legs are a little thin for some male rats. Also he is a Quintopus. I have named him Quincy.

My ferret is a real hit with the ladies because of this hat, and my income has gone up too!
One of my occupations is ferret breeding. I have a ferret I named Bugs Bunny - he's internationally known as one of the best rabbit killers in the ferret circles. A lot of people want to breed their jill to Bugs, and for good reason - he's pure, vicious, lean, anatomically sleek and aerodynamically sound, yet oddly lovable. The only problem is, Bugs Bunny's eyes are a little far apart, and his hair is always sticking up from his fights with the rabbits. He's kind of like Bigwig from the book "Watership Down" (Bugs' favorite book - I read him passages from that every night). He's got this big tuff of hair on top of his skull. The jills (female ferrets) take one look at Bugs Bunny and run the other way.Well, of course this is distressing, especially for the people paying me $2500 for breeding rights. So I did want any well-intentioned owner does - buy my animal cute garments to wear!Bugs Bunny loves the hat, and he's a real hit with the ladies too. My income has come up so much from this small investment, because now all the jills want my Bugs. I couldn't be happier! And he looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO daper in red! He doesn't know it yet but I think I'll by him a little sweater to go with his red cap!

Was to small for my ferrets, be ideal for young kits tho..

not suitable for ferrets..
my boy 'sort of' enjoyed this, but I am part of a group where a few ferrents have lost their ferrets to this... Although my boy doesn't chew, this wasn't a risk I was willing to take. Swiftly went in the bin!

Not for larger ferrets.
I was so excited about this toy but I have to say I was disappointed. The hole in the front of the octopus is very small, I have 3 male ferrets and they have had trouble getting in it, they really have to squeeze their way in. Its quite flimsy and is easily flattened when a ferrets hops on the top, I found it ended up being flat and when they tried going in through the legs the toy just went with them and they ended up wearing it and taking it with them.I stapled the legs down onto a piece of carpet to stop it moving about and that seemed more appealing to the boys as they could now actually use it. I ended up having to put my hand inside the main bit and poofing it back up a lot. Really it could do with some sort of wire framework to keep it in shape while its being used. For the price of it I was expecting something a little better thought out. I think im probably going to end up making my own version using a cat igloo and some trouser legs!! It just doesnt seem large enough to accommodate ferrets, I have rats and I think they would better fit this toy.
