I have been looking at playing another instrument for a few years and decided on pipes. After spending months on researching chanters I "settled" on this one. Let me tell you that the quality is amazing which I was not expecting at all for being a plastic chanter and the bad rep they get. The book is amazing too, if you are already well versed in music. The only thing I will say is that you need to make sure you know how to break down your chanter to clean properly. I was unaware that it is actually 3 pieces not including the reed. The seller is very responsive too! If you purchase this product there is an online version of the book that will walk you through what you are reading about so I highly suggest you reach out to them for your online link! The chanter is solid and good quality. The book needs to be updated to include a more user-friendly, step-by-step instruction process BEFORE showing to play more than one note at a time. Right now, the first lesson is the most helpful but after that, the book assumes the beginner is set. Some things the CoP might want to consider adding to help the true beginner: proper lip placement/lip formation, breathing techniques (e.i. don't puff cheeks out), what sounds to expect, etc. I had to supplement the book with other sites and sources (John Cairnes and hotpipes.com) to better understand the instrument as what to expect.. and why (very important for being students) Otherwise, a sound investment as a precursor to the goose or actual bagpipes.

This is the only Chanter to seriously consider if you are going to climb the mountain that is "The Pipes." It is plastic but it sounds as good as a Chanter can and intonates very well and comes with the book that is the definitive starter guide for aspiring Pipers.

Misleading listing. Says chanter is made of wood and I recieved a plastic one. Reeds that were supplied did not balance HA to La. Poor tone.

Decided to try the Twist Trap Chanter as I am a very wet blower and it gets annoying with the PC. Ordered and received this Twist Trap promptly. The reeds and instruction book were bonuses. Initially I found the Twist Trap sound somewhat less sharp than what I have been using but a change of reed corrected that. Watched the Youtube video which assisted me on taking the chanter apart as it is difficult to locate the screw separation. So far enjoying it and it is a somewhat shorter than my long chanter. It arrived quickly and in fact two weeks prior to the shipping date forecast by the seller/Amazon. Good value overall.

I love this chanter and accompanying instruction booklet. The sound quality is just lovely, and the tutor book is easy to follow. I'm incredibly pleased with my purchase!

The reed makes a sound, but unlike the clarinet and saxophone, the reed is not pressed by the lips, so it is a mechanism that must be adjusted only by the strength of breath. It is difficult to maintain the pitch.So, I was convinced that the bagpipe had an air chamber and had a function to keep a constant volume by sandwiching it aside.
