I take my hat off with respect to people like Dave Pearce, a former Royal Marine Commando. These guys have been through it all whilst we sit in our arm chairs wishing we could be there but at the same time wondering how long we'd hack it.With a accolade of an introduction by Bear Grylls this book (one of the great Haynes manuals) had me riveted from the start - I've read many a book on bushcraft/survival and subscribe to a magazine of a similar name. I'll never have to put into practice a lot of the info in the book, how to survive a rip tide on your hand made raft etc. But knowing the author has "been there and done that" makes every chapter a genuine pleasure to read. Following the authors technique I did manage to light a campfire from the ember of a friction fire.The author also gives the reader snippets of his own experiences over the years and these real life 'cases' nicely tie together the information and real life experience.

Some good pictures but not much information, seems to be more of an ego trip. The front cover shows a man tending a fire in an area that screams "fire hazard"...

Bought for my dad as a last minute christmas present. Needles to say my female intuition was correct when I thought my dad would appreciate a book that would make him feel like a welsh Bear Grylls. Well my dad loves the book, so much in fact he has now gone out and bought a few more survival guides much to the dismay of my mother. My father is now on my A list of people to have around when there's a zombie/nuclear apocalypse.

A basic survival manual. Gives a lot of advice on how to get out of a survival situation and equipment you would want to take with you. If you had the chance. Good price for a comprehensive manual. If you want more I would advise Ray Mear's Essential Bushcraft.

a good informative read full of sound tips that will save you life/sanity. worth the money, clearly set out and very easy to put into practice!!

Fantastic book !! A great read for anyone interested in Survival Techniques or just the great outdoors.
