Seamus’s Short Story

Very important book about character development
The most exciting thing about this very odd book -- besides it's very oddity -- is its openness, its lack of resolution. Seamus finds himself too small in a world where the thing he needs, like remotes and chocolate milk, are stored too high for him to reach. But one day while messing about in his mother's closet, he tries on her high heels, and finds himself tall enough at last to reach all those things he had been yearning for. He prances around for quite some time until he realizes that a) his feet hurt (!!!!) and b) some cool stuff is down below that he can't reach now.He has to think about this problem for "a long, long time" and finally reaches the conclusion that it's good to be both, sometimes one, sometimes the other. And NOTHING IS SAID about whether or not it's weird to wear high heels around. He just tries them out, goes with them for a while, and then switches off and on depending on what he's doing. Seamus is finding out what he needs to accomplish what he wants to do, and that's the whole deal. There's no content about wearing high heels meaning one thing or another (except perhaps making your feet hurt.) I love that. The art work is terrific too, extremely emotive.

Brilliant
This charming sweet story about the challenges and ingenuity of childhood and innocence is humorously told by Heather Hartt-Sussman and wonderfully illustrated by Milan Pavlovic. Never condescending and always funny and lyrical storytelling. I recommend!!!
