HDD external enclosure - recommended
For a long time I had an Akasa X31 Lokstor - looks just like this except the Akasa unit was black and had an eSATA connection as well as a USB3.Yesterday I foolishly used the wrong power supply for the Akasa unit and ended up blowing the circuitry - a noticable 'pop' and some acrid grey smoke confirming that the unit was now dead. So I needed a replacement. As the Akasa unit is no longer available I bought this Orico unit. It is basically identical to the Akasa unit and, as expected, worked straight out of the box. So I now have a perfect replacement unit for the Akasa. It seems to be well built and for me does everything that I need it to do which is basically to house a 4TB HDD onto which I back up my NAS device.Recommended.

Good external drive case
A well-built fast (over 100MB/sec) external drive case.A couple of points - the "key" for the door lock is a 3.5mm hex driver, so a standard driver set will open it. It'll stop you opening the drive door by accident but won't stop someone stealing the drive for long. There is no cage holding the drive, so if you're not using the vertical stand lay the case on it's left side to avoid any potential stress on the SATA connector.

A little missleading
does not have an inbuilt fan to cool the HDD. The hard drive can become very hot especially if it is a high performance type (7200rpm).
