19th-Century Fashion in Detail (V&A): 1800 - 1900

Bought this as a present for my grandma. She already owns a lot of books on historical clothing but she was blown away by this one. The images and the amount of detail that has been captured is stunning. Very quality images and paper.

This highly detailed and beautiful book is a welcome treat for those who love period clothing and especially the details of how they are constructed. It was a big win for my relative is a master amateur seamstress. A very artistic book with sensational photographs.

This is just a joy of a reference book. It is set out with close up pictures of details of dresses; flounces, ruffles, trimmings, embroidery, buttons. It covers some tailoring and some jackets. Each picture is also provided with a small written description . It is not a ‘how to’ book, but just eye candy in lovely detail.

I love all the detail in this book.

My granddaughter, who spent a lot of time at the V&A in the last 6 months, loves it. So do I.

Delighted with this book, it was exactly what I expected.

This is a beautiful book: the cover is attractive, the pages good quality and the featured garments are stunning. I have to admit being a tiny bit disappointed, however, as there wasn’t as much detail on the construction as I would have liked. The writing described and commented upon the garments rather than illuminated how they were put together. To be fair maybe this was not the intention.

Libro fatto benissimo con descrizioni precise e contestualizzate, disegni dei modelli e foto fantastiche che ritraggono abiti e dettagli con ottima resa dei colori. Bellissimi anche i disegni dei modelli che permettono, con abilità e le dovute competenze, di realizzare le proprie copie degli abiti! Anche le descrizioni sono molto interessanti (bisogna conoscere l’inglese), in ogni caso il libro è di una bellezza tale che può essere apprezzato dai non appassionati della materia anche solo per le immagini!

Superbe livre sur la mode du 19em siècle. J'aurais aimé voir de temps en temps quelques photos des costumes entier, ils sont présentés en tant que dessin uniquement et le livre se concentre sur les détails qui sont apr contre remarquablement bien présenté. Un beau livre dans tous les cas ! Attention certaines tenues sont aussi dans d'autres livres de V& A (exemple dans le livre "haute couture, la mode en détail") ce qui fait un peu doublon si l'on a les 2.
