Complete Method for Autoharp or Chromaharp

The author did a great job in teaching ALL of the points of playing the Autoharp. There are a lot of books that do not show details of the various strums that can be done. I have been playing musical instruments for over 65 years, but none of them were strummed. This book has details and pictures of strumming techniques. Started from basic to specific.Very helpful. Have good explanation on music theory. I learned a lot in this book. The songs are from the older days.

I looked through many books that claimed to be the best for the Autoharp, but Mel Bay's IS the best. I play many instruments, including the piano, cello, classical guitar...but a friend bought me an Autoharp for fun, and I AM having a lot of fun with it, but I'm also learning how to play it really well using Mel's book. It gives step-by-step directions (with pictures!!) on dozens of strums, and then goes into teaching how to pick the strings to play tunes. It also has songs that go from easy to much more difficult to play, which I love. I've found this book invaluable - even if you just want to learn to strum an Autoharp, this book is the best "teacher."

I owned this book years ago and loved it. I think its probably the best book out there for learning the autoharp on your own.

Would of rather had a cd instead of download.

This book was written forty years ago. There is no CD to go with it. You now download from Mel Bay's website. The photos are old and very grey-scale - virtually useless. The text is old and very small. Persons hoping to read on some form of tablet - beware.However, the standard of instruction and the music in the download is excellent.

Comprehensive and easy to follow

This tutor is excellent for a learner and reaches a good standard of playing.However I am selling my Autoharp as I don't find it very interesting.But that does not detract from the excellence of the tutor, which includes tips on tuningreading music, melody playing and quite a lot of strummimg technique.

Well worth the price, but will need a few more years practice on my part. Thanks Keith

Have enjoyed what I have read so far. Have not had the time so far to practice the picking melody techniques, or listen to the on line audio. Hope in the new year I will just be like a bear hibernating and playing the autoharp.
