Q: would ordinary bin bags fit this?

Hi, yes they would. I know people have used cat litter as an absorbent medium in bin bags. I use the popaloo ones as it's only for occasional use so not too expensive. If using bin bags make sure it's well anchored on the pegs under the seat. The popaloo is the most space efficient loo and easy to use. Great product.

Q: What size is the access hole in the seat?

It is almost the same as a normal UK loo seat opening..more oval than round. Front to back 26.5 Cms left to right centred at 22Cms.

Q: Hi, are the bags that come with, compostable? 'break' after some time when left in a ground alongside the contents ?

The bags are not truly compostable they are 100% Bio degradable and also have an additive to speed up the degradation process, if the bags were placed in a composter you would eventually end up with very fine shards of the bag film.
