Modern batteries & their use are super complex - typical user needs to delegate the care of their batteries to a device which "knows what to do" - just purchased this charger, and already one can sense it "sorting thru'" the big stock of batteries. It seems to know its stuff, some old batteries seem fine - some new(er) batteries seem to have died prematurely. A decent charge saves time, money, hassle of having one suspect battery in a set etc. I'm optimistic about this device, it seems well constructed and gives confidence. Would have been nicer if it was maybe a little cheaper, but I'd rather have the quality - time will tell - but very pleased with it so far !

I was sent to the seller's website via a link on the order page. There, quite clearly, it is claimed that all their products are made in Germany. I went ahead and placed the order based on that statement and in good faith. Since the advertisement made so many claims about what the charger could (or could not do) I thought that an item made in Germany, which has a tradition of turning out excellent products, would stand up and deliver the advertising claims. I was bewildered when I opened the box and saw "Made in China" splashed all over it as well as on the charger unit itself. In recent years I have had many bad experiences with sophisticated and, often, expensive equipment "made in China" breaking down and leaving me in the lurch. I contacted the UK Ansmann agent and complained but the gentleman was unable to provide a good answer. I immediately sent the charger back as it was NOT as described in the advertising before me nor that of the german parent company's published claims. As a very long standing customer of Amazon I felt very let down.

Despite the cost, this charger very quickly shows its worth. It repairs batteries that haven't been used for a while, then brings them back to a working state. Also, it is pretty good when it comes to variety. It covers most choices of batteries to want.

Charger worked fine until one day it just stopped. I was days outside the warranty and although the manufacturer offered to "look and see if they could fix it" I would have to cover shipping which meant it made more sense to buy a new one, which I did from Energiser. Could not recommend this charger based on my experience.

Seemed expensive, but took a chance based on positive reviews, and pleased I did. Have only tried recharging AA batteries so far, but impressed with intuitive lamp indicators and speed of charging. The unit looks and feels solidly made. As its size has been mentioned, trust the photograph assists. EDIT: Just noticed the photograph; guess it doesn't assist much! Anyway, the unit is approximately 17cm at its widest, and 19cm top-to-bottom.

We run all our battery devices on renewables and I had one of these chargers for a decade or more before it gave up the ghost. The slight improvements over the interim have made this model even better - it gives useful information on the state of charge in three bands when a battery is inserted, refreshes batteries where necessary and clearly shows the stages of charging. Well worth the premium price.

The charger detects most batteries as 'faulty' and refuses to charge them, even though they are good. Very frustrating! I wouldn't by Ansmann again as a result.

Second one of these I have bought - this one as a present as I have been very happy with the one I bought some time ago. In pretty constant use supplying the range of mice, torches, controllers etc in a busy house. Recommended!

Dommage, 3 ans après l'achat, l'appareil est visiblement HS :( Le plastique déformé suite à une surchauffe, avec l'odeur de brulé et fumée blanche. Heureusement que j'ai remarqué cela.
