Great resource
I attended to a training seminar in DBT last month (mostly an introduction to DBT). I was very excited about what I learned and how I could apply the skills training to my practice. My problem was that I could receive only limited information on the application of the skills training with my clients. I got on Amazon and searched for a book that could walk me through each of the skills so I could learn it, understand it, and then teach it to my clients. This is the PERFECT solution to my problem. The language is very easy to understand and it groups the skills in logical and easy to follow modules. I've adopted some of the skills myself in my personal life and have enjoyed the benefits. All of the clients I've used this with have very much appreciated the skills. My only wish, as with other reviews, is that the book came with all of the worksheets on CD so I didn't have to make so many copies. Overall, a great resource for those who want to use DBT with their clients and haven't had a ton of formal training in the therapy mode. I imagine it would be great for the general population who would like to learn mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal skills on their own without the help of a therapist.

Excellent Resource!
Amazon said it would take 1-2 months to receive, but I got it in just over a week, and I am glad I took the risk of playing the waiting game (loving immediate gratification like most people!). Having used several DBT manuals (Linehan's, Matthew McKay's, and Cathy Moonshine's), I can say that I am extremely pleased to add this to my "toolbox." This book has many skills not covered in other DBT manuals and is expanded in that sense, not in the sense of being overly verbose. I appreciate clear and concise explanations that don't bog me down (or bog down clients I assign bibliotherapy to). I also liked the worksheets and guidelines for many recommended DBT practices, again finding them to explained in practical rather than academic ways. This book will no doubt help DBT therapists (and non-DBT therapists who teach skills) and might be a great resource for people looking to understand DBT skills without a therapist. The only drawback I can think of is not having an included disk to make copies from (in fairness, most manuals don't). This "extra" would decrease time at the copy machine! If you're into DBT or skill-building, this book is highly recommended!

An essential tool for DBT clinicians
I have worked with both Dr. Pedersons in their clinic and this is a beautiful reflection of their work. Their desire to match DBT to the client where the client is in the moment versus fitting each client neatly into the formal DBT framework has changed and undoubtedly saved many lives. I have since moved into my own private practice and I have taken the skills I learned in his clinic to guide me in my work today. This book is an absolutely marvelous tool for any practicing DBT clinician. I especially love the section on mindfulness and how to teach dialectics. I frequently get feedback from my clients "What does dialectical mean? How do I use it?" Although, Linehan's workbook illuminates dialectics, it fails to teach how to work dialectics and practice them directly. I have received so much positive feedback from clients regarding this addition in skills training. Thank-you Drs. Pederson! I'm ordering another book today! Keep em' coming!

Easy to Understand DBT Skills for the Individual Seeker
This is definitely a much-updated and expanded version of the DBT approach to life skills.By far and away, this includes plain, everyday language that speaks to you in a friendly, warm tone with great examples to support whatever concept is being taught. The accompanying exercises are perfect to reinforce those concepts, and if you practice them dutifully, you'll have no trouble mastering it.This book is easily suited for individual or group use, though I found it extremely more useful more my use as an individual seeking self help. And with that said, the approach to the DBT skills taught in this book is very general rather than condition-specific (e.g. Bipolar, borderline personality disorder, etc.)I highly recommend this book to really anyone who could use some better life coping skills.

from the perspective of understanding what people I love are going through when they are dealing with emotional ...
I am not a professional, and my first impression was, it's just a common sense. But I have to admit that apparently, it's not common sense to a lot of people. So, from the perspective of understanding what people I love are going through when they are dealing with emotional instability, this book gave me perspective on how to empathize with them and maybe, just maybe, I can help them. At least, how I continue reaching out to them when they lash out at me in irrational anger.I am not giving all 5 stars because the Kindle edition made some illustrations hard to read.

GREAT RESOURCE FOR CLINICIANS & PATIENTS
I LOVE this workbook. Use it all the time for my DBT group and individuals. I like it better than Linehan workbook because it gives patients space to identify ways to apply the skill in their lives. Works well as homework. I also prefer the explanations and presentation of concepts to the Linehan book (I do have the new version). I would recommend the workbook to patients as well as it's easy to understand and apply skills. DBT is one of the most effective therapies that I implement in my practice.

it's a good source for additional materials
When you're running DBT groups on a regular basis (like I am), it's a good source for additional materials. Since the new manual came out, it's less necessary, but it has some good explanations of a few of the skills that I use regularly.

Full of really clear information.
I have only been apart of a DBT group a few months after being diagnosed with BPD many years ago. I am no expert but have read my fair share of books on both mental health, BPD and DBT. It's safe to say DBT is challenging and a lot to get your head around as anyone who's participated will know. I've have really struggled to understand much of the theory and terminology used, which I've found incredibly frustrating. Then I stumbled across this amazing book which is full from cover to cover with great understanding and a profound insight. The wording is easy to follow explaining everything thoroughly but not over the top either. Its straight forward with each chapter set out very clearly. It explains each module and breaks them all down making them easy to digest. It has so many worksheets that help you understand the chapters and yourself even more. Non of it is overwhelming, over the top or patronising at all. This is probably the most helpful book I have come across and I'm sure it will help me learn the skills with a much better understanding to gain fully from my work in DBT.I would certainly recommend this book to anyone in DBT, with BPD, a mental illness or who simply wants to understand their mind a little more with life skills that will give you a quieter, calmer mind, greater understanding of relationships and life.

Wouldn't be without.
This is the second book I've bought after losing my first copy. I find it a great back up to my BPD treatment which is DBT. It helps make thing clearer for me to understand. Even my Therapist's (2) are going to get the book for them selves after borrowing my copy.
