I picked up this graphic novel after I first read the author’s and artist’s previous Sherlock Holmes work: The Hound of the Baskervilles: A Sherlock Holmes graphic Novel. I enjoyed the first work and I also enjoyed their second volume! A Study of Scarlet was actually Arthur Conan Doyle's first work on Sherlock Holmes. It is amazing to think Doyle wrote this classic at the age of twenty six something I didn’t know until I read the Preface. I haven’t read Sherlock Holmes since I was a kid and I have largely forgotten what I read so it was a delight to see this story retold in graphic novel format. The story was great with twists and turns. Like the previous graphic novel I enjoyed the beautiful drawing and colors that sets the mood of late 1800s Victorian Era mystery. I understand there is another graphic novel on Holmes out there by Edington; I wished there was more of these!

I've always loved Sherlock Holmes stories and all things associated with Doyle's universe. Being a fan of graphic novels, I picked this up a year or so ago along with The Hound of the Baskervilles (my next book to read).The artwork in this story was fantastic - vivid colors, clean lines and the lettering was clean and easy to read. I though Edginton did a great job in adapting the text to graphic novel form. The story didn't lose anything vital and flowed well.If you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes, you'll want to pick up this series. There are three, so far, including The Sign of Four.

If you want to hear about the story of "A Study in Scarlet" then you've come to the wrong place. I want to talk about the art. Watson looks different but Sherlock looks downright strange. I don't get why Sherlock has such a weird hair-style in this.

Excellent reading

I always love this novel and the stories of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. Now with this novel is even better. The dialogues are the same as the story. It's a joy to read.
