Good quality and good value. More bulky than normal clamps. Cable attachment could be improved.
These quick-release battery clamps use a cam-action lever to tighten the connector on the battery post, and are self-locking. The fully-closed lever goes over-centre, and will not come undone in normal use. There is a knurled nut on the end of the locking screw that allows the tightness to be adjusted before the lever is operated. They are well-made, and work well. I already have similar pair in use in a battery box, and the only issue is the additional space needed to accommodate and operate the levers. This set comes with colour-coded felt washers to go on the battery posts. I wanted to use one to replace the negative clamp on the old car. This would tighten only when fully closed with the nut and bolt. It now looks like the main problem is with the battery post, which is out of shape. I was able to adjust this new clamp so that it locked onto the post securely. The cable is clamped by a bar and two allen screws. A hex key is supplied in the kit to fit these screws. With the bar clamped right down, there was still a little movement in the cable. The clamping area is short and too spacious for many cables. I got round this by inverting the bar so that the raised area on top was now in contact with the cable. In this way I was able to hold the cable tightly. I am not sure if this is an intentional design feature, but it's an area that could be improved. An additional bar for the insulated part of the cable would reduce the strain.Other subsidiary wires can be fitted to the two extra screws on each clamp. Eye terminals are ideal for this. One other small criticism: the washers under the allen screw heads are too big, and can get trapped under the cable-bar, or on the raised area on top of the bar.In the main, these are high-quality fittings, that provide for multiple connections, can be used without tools, and look good. They won't suit every application (I have not used the positive clamp because the insulating cover won't fit), but they are great in the right place, and not at all expensive at Β£7.99 for the pair, delivered..
