Works for my yard
Listen, it's a battery powered mower. You are not going to mow an acre on a single battery charge, let's be real. But for my small residential yard, it works perfect. YES, the battery WILL drain FASTER when you use the self-propelled function, or when you have thick and tall grass making the motor work harder to mow, that's just the reality of it. I mow twice a week, it takes me about 45 minutes to mow, Weed Wack, and blow the clippings of the driveway, and I use both batteries fully. Upgrade to larger batteries for longer use and keep a few extra and you are good to go! You can even keep a second battery in the mower in a storage slot next to the battery being used so you can swap it out faster than a NASCAR pit stop!

Lots of power, battery is just OK
To start with, I got great customer service. The shipment comes in two boxes but I was missing one of them (the hedge trimmer). The company actually notified me of this and wanted to know if I wanted a partial refund or the item. Obviously I chose the item. I have used the mower with the included 5amp hour battery and it lasts just over 1/4 of grass. I think it's because at 40 volts, the machine works harder than if it was 80 volts. But I chose this kit because everything is 40 volts and the batteries are interchangeable. The hedge trimmer is great. I used the chain saw to cut grooves in a tree stump to add that chemical to break it down. It had impressive power. The leaf blower is very powerful at 40 volts and has a "Turbo" feature. As for the battery issue, the kit includes two 2-amphour batteries and they provide the few extra minutes I need to finish the lawn and still use the weedwacker and leaf blower. I can easily buy another battery if I needed to. Overall, I found this kit to be good quality and the price was incredible. I like that I can buy future pieces of equipment and use the same battery. Greenworks had the biggest selection of tools that ran on 40volts.

Changing my review
My smaller and older mower went kaput this summer. It was Green Works and Iโd had it for a few years. It worked great in my yard and I could mow almost my whole yard in one battery. I have sort of a fair weather yard that tends to pool rainwater a bit so grass grows and often I have to wait a bit to let it dry out. A long mow takes two batteries. With the old mower. I upped my mower with this bigger one but it appears to eat my batteries. Iโm not done with my small front yard and Iโve gone thru 2 larger and two smaller batteries. Iโm still not finished. I have not gotten to the back yard yet. This mower is much heavier, harder to maneuver. AND is absolutely ineffective in that my batteries lose charge within a few minutes. I have a few green works machines so I have numerous batteries fully charged. Well I did anyway. I regret spending more for this bigger mower. Iโm really disappointed with its performance. I also accidentally ran over Nick the snake, so Iโm mourning him too. About five years ago I met Nick, who went by Nicolas at the time, while cutting blackberries. I accidentally cut Its tail off. I was mortified of course. The following spring I spotted what appeared to be a full tailed snake, not Nick, in another part of the yard. Moments later Nick too made haste. I was happy to see the two and renamed the pair Nick and Jessica. This year I noticed their point of ingress/egress to the under-well of my home. Weโve a mice arrangement. Nick isnโt a substantial snake but he sounded substantial this morning. And now I have a Jessica snake totally unaware Nicks not returning home tonight. I checked the snake parts and saw the smooth nub of his nick. So itโs definitely Nick. Please take a moment to mourn the loss of the mighty mouser and pest killer Nick. He did a wonderful job. May Jessica forgive me and May she find new love. Iโve only ever seen the two snakes, so i donโt know if there is a pile of teaming orphans Jessica must contend with. Itโs all a lot. Iโm very sorry for your loss Nick. The tail part 5 years ago and for all the parts you needed to function as designed today. All of the yard mourns you; the crows Mr and Mrs Kim and their soon Tim, the Bunny Bunch, and of course it goes without sayingโฆMr and Mrs Impossumable.

If it doesn't start, check the storage switch.
Easy assembly, charge the battery, set the mow height and go. Worked flawlessly the first time. A week later, it would not start. I checked I was doing everything correctly and still no start. After a lengthy wait on the manufacturer's customer service line, the attendant took mine and the mower's information, verified my start-up process was correct then, asked that I change the mow height setting. It started. I changed the height several times and it started at each setting. I cannot say if this will repeat but, if yours does this, try the height setting change. I really like this mower. UPDATE 1: itโs less than a month later and I experience the same โno startโ situation. I call customer service again. The wait is even longer this time. While waiting, I keep searching/troubleshooting the issue and find the โstorage switchโ is not releasing all the way and this is the problem. It sticks. . . . sometimes. It can be depressed and released quickly to get it closed so it will start. Hereโs the bad news. GREENWORKS doesnโt have one in their spare parts system so their remedy is to have you go buy it yourself. BS. They told me itโs not expensive. After freight and tax it is over $25. More BS. How about they pay for and ship me the part? Isnโt that the purpose of the warranty? I will be calling them back. Update to follow.

In Love with Greenworks Products
I posted two before and one after picture. I purchased the Greenworks 40V 21 inch, self-propelled mower, blower, and edger bundle. I have a half acre of land so it took me approximately 4 hours (putting lines in the yard) to cut my lawn. My yard looks fabulous. The mower is quiet, very light weight, and makes a clean cut. It is true that when putting mower in reverse, you need to gently pull back, wait about five seconds and pull back again. You will know when the mower is in reverse mode as it will pull back with ease and you will see the wheel handle move and make soft clicking noise. I also found that letting up off of the handle slightly will send you in reverse mode faster than simply waiting. When cutting around trees and smaller areas, I release the self-propelled mode because it goes really fast. When in self-propelled mode, ease up off the self-propelled handle to slow the mower down. It goes a lot faster than my old gas mower. The 2.0 battery only lasts about 45 minutes. The 4.0 battery lasts 1-2 hours depending on the charge. I use one abbey while the other is charging and then switch. Instead of paying $159 for two more batteries, I am purchasing the pole saw and the trimmer, which will come with another battery and charger. The batteries work in all of Greenworks products. I absolutely love this. The amount of money I save by doing my own lawn and trimming my own trees with user friendly, green products that is female friendly is priceless. I am a 59 year old female who have had back and other major surgeries, but Greenworks products are so light that I can use them with ease. This may be due to the fact that they are made of durable plastic, including the blade on the mower. If the mower cuts off or you temporarily cut it off, be sure to power it up again. If you press the self propel and the power handle, the mower appears to turn back on, however, I questioned whether it was actually cutting as self-propelled works even when the mower is off. The mower holds two batteries at a time. Therefore, I will use two 4ah batteries moving forward as the mower will automatically switch to the second battery after the first one dies giving you uninterrupted cut time. I noticed that Greenworks makes higher powered batteries, which can extend my uninterrupted cut time. I plan to purchase at least one.

Battery completely dead after a couple uses ** Updated **
** UPDATE ** Support finally reached out to me once I was able to enter their callback queue. After giving them all of the information, they are mailing me a new battery. I'm happy for the resolution, but the effort put into simply getting in contact with anyone was a bit problematic. Hopefully I do not have to deal with this issue again in the future. Original review below -------------------------------------------- Mower is great. However the 5ah battery which came with it is completely dead. It will not charge nor display any charge indicators. I have several other Greenworks tools and batteries. All other batteries charge and work as they should, even on the charger this battery came with. I've tried contacting support. Sat on hold, requested callback, tried to use online chat (which is just a bot and then times you out when you ask for a support agent). So far cannot contact Greenworks in any way to request support. Battery and mower are way less than a year old, and only a couple of uses. If this is how warranty and support issues are going to go, then I will shop with a different brand from now on, because this is not acceptable.

terrible battery and/or charger dwarf the positive features
Model purchased: Greenworks 40V 21" Cordless Brushless Push Mower, 5.0Ah USB Battery and Charger Included pros:: - not too heavy - easy single-lever height adjustment of all wheels - minimal assembly required cons: - between the metal housing and metal blade, seems to be plastic - will see how long plastic lasts - battery and charger (see below) The product page indicates up to 45 minutes run time. 45 minutes is the most we have every gotten from a full battery. Many times it has only lasted 30 minutes. I wish I had asked/seen a question about the battery charging prior to purchasing. The instructions with the charger make it clear it takes 2-1/5 HOURS to charge the battery supplied. However, most of the time when the battery needs charging, the charger indicates (via flashing LED) that the battery is too hot, and that one needs to wait 30 minutes before charging. So that makes a total of 3 HOURS cycle time - 30 minutes for the battery to cool down prior to charging, then 2-1/2 hours to charge. So, 30-45 minutes up time, 3 HOURS down time. Maybe in a few years battery power will be up to the job of powering a mower, but it seems we are not there yet. This mower would be great for someone who has a tiny yard with nice even golf-course grass - maybe the front or rear of a townhouse, i.e. a yard one could easily mow with a manual push reel mower.

So easy to use, does a great job, perfect for a smaller yard.
I love this mower! It cuts and mulches very nicely. Easy to put together. Easy to start. Height adjustments made simply. No gas or electric cords to get in the way. It has a second storage spot in the battery compartment for a spare battery so when the first dies, you can easily swap it out and keep mowing. I have a relatively small yard and the battery does the whole yard plus some for the next mow. I recommend getting a large spare battery to have ready to go. Eco friendly! Not very loud for a mower and easily maneuverable.
