Great for dogs and toddlers, easy install.
This gate is very sturdy with a great locking feature. We have a very large entryway to the kitchen and it is working perfectly to prevent our doggos and toddler from entering. It also only took about 10 minutes to install.

Great for pets!
We bought this for our dogs to block them off in our kitchen when we are gone for long periods of time so they are safe but still have access to their beds and water/food dishes. It's easily retractable, my husband had it installed in less than 30 mins. My only gripe, where it clicks into place, the bottom can be hard to unlatch so most of the time we don't latch it and only latch the top one cause my son and I really struggle with it. Other than that, great upgrade!

Best dog gate I have owned
I have owned a lot of different types of dog gates. From the really expensive iron gates with an easy walk thru door to the simple wooden tension mounted gates and various plastic gates in between. What I love about this gate is that it’s retractable and mounted to the inside of the doorway so when it is retracted you never see it from the other side of the room. It is super easy to pull close and retract. Our door opening is 60" wide for 2 sliding barn doors and it fits the opening just perfectly. That is the max opening for this gate. I just give the knob on top a turn to release it and then pull it open or retract it closed. I can do it with one hand. You do not have to have your hand on the knob to open or close the gate the entire time as some reviews have stated. I don't think they read the operating instructions. With a 60" wide doorway that would be impossible. The installation was really easy. It comes with a template for the left and the right side of the doorway with an outline of the hardware drawn on the template so you know which piece goes on which side and the orientation. They couldn't make it any easier. It also includes spacers to accommodate your wall trim at the floor. Super happy with this purchase and it keeps my dogs securely in their room. The last expensive metal gate with swinging door that we had, my dachshund figured out how to press the mechanism at the bottom of the door to unlock the gate and get out. Nothing on this one for him to unlock. Great purchase. Seems well made but no rating for durability yet as I have only had it a month. Update: 5 mos later - gate is holding up well. But my dogs (20 lb) daschund mixes have figure out they can go under the gate and escape. The vinyl is not completely taught when expanded out and latched to the other side of the doorway. There is just enough play where they can lift up the material with their noses and squeeze under. Ugh. Once again another dog gate foiled by my two escape artists. A bigger dog would probably not be able to do this. I really love this gate and wanted it to work because it looks nice and retracts out of site when not in use.

It's just okay..
This is the second gate we've bought. They changed the design from the original. This new one sucks. Mounting was a nightmare. It BARELY covers the distance it says it does. Giving 3 stars because it technically works but I wouldn't buy another one that's for sure.

Great Baby Gate, But May Need Some Additional Support
The baby gate functions very well. It appears to be sturdy enough to hold a baby, a toddler, and/or a dog back. The locking, unlocking, and one handed unlocking features are well designed. However, it may need extra support to attach to the walls. For example, the stud in my downstairs doorway is right next to the metal door frame, too close to easily maneuver the gate. I tried using the plastic spacers and drywall anchors provided to offset the distance from the baseboard, but the drywall/plastic spacers felt very unstable and felt like it would pull out with time/any sustained pressure. Accordingly, I cut three wood pieces from a board and anchored them to the studs and screwed the baby gate to the wood pieces, which made a very solid support structure, while spacing the baby gate away from the base board.

It is a window roller shade on its side.
Update: in less than a week the cats figured out how to slide underneath, and when they jumped on the gate the entire thing fell off the wall. Changing rating to 1 star. Original review: The reviews critical of this gate's sturdiness are accurate. It is essentially a window roller shade on its side. The gate fabric is a vinyl mesh that would not stand up for long to frequent clawing by cats or dogs. This gate should never be used for children of any size without constant supervision. I believe that if a toddler fell against it the gate could collapse, especially if it is installed into wall board and not a wood door frame. For that reason the gate should never be used at the top of a staircase, a porch drop off, etc. The gate I received requires two hands to close. Since I have it across a wide opening I have to grab the fabric and pull out extra length (similar to many car seat belts) to get enough slack to secure it. When pulling on the gate fabric, the entire thing has come off the wall hooks. So why have I given the gate three stars and not one? Because for some situations it is ideal: when you have a large opening; when you are keeping the gate closed most of the time or open most of the time; when your pets are small and not escape artists; when you need a bit of a visual barrier without stopping airflow. I'm using it to separate elderly cats who are getting to know each other, and to keep a small senior dog away from cat food. There are two entrances to the room, so blocking one entrance with the gate continually is not a hardship. If I had to open and close this gate a few times a day it would drive me nuts. I am using it across a double door opening over 55" across. When closed, the gate is completely out of the way. The 41" height is ample to discourage small animals from jumping over it. The multiple mounting options are great; I have one side of the gate inside the door frame, the other on the outside of the door frame. I installed it that way because the hook side, when installed inside the door frame, has an opening big enough to put my hand through. Installing both sides outside a door frame definitely makes the gate more secure. I bought it in the gray color (it was the cheapest), which is moderately see-through. The darker the fabric, the more see-through it is (consider window screens, which are usually black). For less see-through, use the white. It was extremely difficult to get the screws into a wood door frame even though I drilled pilot holes. To avoid stripping the screws I had to use a hand screwdriver. I bought "better" wood screws at a hardware store but they were essentially the same as those that came with the gate. On the plus side, the gate's paper guides were extremely helpful in mounting the hardware correctly. If you are occasionally visited by a baby or small child this gate would work to keep them out of rooms with hazardous contents, but only if the child is under constant supervision. Every small child I've known would outwit or demolish this gate in a few minutes.

Good quality
Quality baby gate. It does have a lock feature and looks nice in the doorframe and at the bottom of the staircase. They also feature multiple lengths which is helpful.
