John Ashbery: Collected Poems 1991-2000 (LOA #301) (Library of America John Ashbery Edition)

The versions of Ashbery’s later work that are to be found in the Library of America collected works are most likely to be the last word and the final edit. This is our best access to his voice and intent.Since I already had earlier publications of these projects and collections, I have been hesitant to buy this volume of the Library’s authoritative collection. I was pleased and relieved by the condition of this book, which was excellent. I would be happy to recommend this store to anyone looking for books of this kind.

Reams of nonsense phrases to be found, providing good practice reading phrases aloud, as phrases, without connecting sense, each with a momentary glimmer or start, not quite as Ezra Pound wanted poetry, as music before comprehension, but rather as an electrified lab frog's leg quivers momentarily, as if it slpashed again toward the deep, swimming, but remains a detached, disconnected performance.

ジョン・アッシュベリー氏。近年、鬼籍に入りました。ジョン・アッシュベリー氏と言う方は、アメリカの非常に有名な現代詩人で、日本で言えば、田村隆一さんくらい、著名な方でした。　それにしても、アッシュベリー氏が、とうとう、ノーベル賞を、受賞できなかったのは、残念です。何か、ノーベル賞の委員会は、検討を、間違えているのではないでしょうか。　今回、2 Volumes で、発表された、Collected Poems を、手にして、ひとつの時代に、ピリオドが打たれた、と言う感慨がします。　２１世紀では、どの様な、現代詩人が、現れるでしょうね。
