Your Cup of Cake

I've been baking cakes, cookies and cupcakes for friends and family for years...so I have collected numerous baking cookbooks. This book has jumped to the top of my favorites list! It's much bigger than I expected, it contains a beautiful photo with each recipe, and the recipes not only look yummy, but are easy to follow. The ingredients are those I usually have on hand. Most recipes start with a cake mix, but sshhhh....that's been my secret for years! I can't wait to try the Shirley Temple Cupcakes...with Maraschino cherries and almond extract, they have to be scrumptious. I'm so happy to add this book to my collection. I'll probably be purchasing more copies, as it would make a terrific gift. This book, along with a set of cupcake couplers would be a great gift for a seasoned baker or a newbie.

This is such a fun book! I have had it for a couple of years and I have made probably half of all the recipes in it. They are easy and delicious.My family's favorite recipes are:Orange White ChocolatePeanut Butter and ChocolateBlackberry White ChocolateCookie DoughCookies and CreamAll of the recipes start with cake mixes. Although I personally prefer homemade cakes, I also see the value and convenience of using cake mixes. Cake mixes are more fail proof, and perfect for beginning bakers. When I first started using this book, I always used a cake mix. All of the favorite recipes I listed have been made multiple times exactly as written in the book and they were delicious! Now, I typically use one of my homemade cake batters, but I still use this book for the frosting recipes and flavor ideas. I have altered my standard from scratch chocolate or vanilla cake into different flavors based on the recipes in this book. So even those that don't like using cake mixes, can find great recipes and ideas in this book! The tips and guidelines are great! Perfect for helping anyone learn how to frost cupcakes. Love this book!

All of the negative reviews for this cookbook are because all of the recipes use store bought cake mixes, which to me is one of the great things about it! I like baking from scratch but all of the cupcakes I've tried from this cookbook taste amazing and homemade. The people who left negative reviews about it using cake mixes should have read the description!This is one of my favorite baking cookbooks is because this book shows that you don't have to be a professional baker to make delicious and beautiful cupcakes. I love all of the unique cupcakes Lizzy has come up with. It's true what another reviewer said about how a lot of her recipes are also on her blog (not all though!) but I like having this as a physical book and I also bought it to support her and I hope she continues to come out with cookbooks!

I stumbled upon Lizzy's blog[...] probably a year ago. It is now the only website that I use to find dessert recipes. I have made Lizzy's cupcakes dozens of times and they are always a huge hit. Lizzy is a college student who creates her own recipes and always has a story to go along with them. I have been anticipating this cookbook's release for months and was not disappointed at all.This cookbook contains about 80 recipes that are brilliant, surprising and stunning. She has a section of kids' recipes like Peanut Butter and Jelly and Sno Cone cupcakes, a section of fancy cupcakes, and many other sections. Lizzy does an awesome job of incorporating a variety of ingredients, fillings, ganaches, and garnishments. This cookbook contains recipes for cupcakes, but she also has other recipes on her blog for things like puppy chow, cookies, truffles, etc. As you can see from the cover picture, every single picture of every recipe is so amazing, full of color and beauty.But be warned that once you discover these delicious and exciting recipes, it is hard to go back to plain old cupcakes ever again. I know that I never will.

Pros: Amazing recipes that turn out every time! Great tips on piping and other suggestions. Fabulous pictures to help you measure how good your own cupcakes look.Cons: No Table of Contents for Kindle! At least put the basics of Cupcake Recipes, Piping, FAQ, and Index so people who order the Kindle version can get a better feel for whats in it. I don't know anyone that reads a cookbook from cover to cover, and anyone that doesn't find the Index at the back of the kindle version will feel incredibly lost! If this were changed this would be a 5 Star review.An Aside: Cake mixes are easy to reproduce from scratch, don't overlook these fabulous recipes and tips just because most of the recipes use cake mixes.

First, I have to say, the pictures of the cupcakes are beautiful, very nicely done. The recipes all seem very easy to do as well. I'm looking forward to making many of the recipes in this book, but so far I've done one, and it turned out perfect. One of the things that prompted me to purchase this particular book was that all the recipes started out with a box mix and the enhancements were made, all using ingredients that most people probably already have on stock. Next week I will be trying one of the other recipes for a church function and as of right now, I just can't make up my mind. They all look so good.

Love this book. It is not like other "doctor up a cake mix" books. The ideas of how to change/alter the cake mixes are REALLY good, with awesome results. There are also really great frosting recipes in here. Very easy to follow, and pictures for every recipe! Love it! I initially found this book at my library, and I tried several recipes with great success. After checking it out multiple times, I decided I really needed to add it to my recipe book inventory and bought it. I do not regret it.

I am a huge fan of Lizzy Early's blog and receive by email each week a new recipe from her. She is awesome and so is her book. It's a beautiful book with lovely photographs and fantastic recipes. I read a review of her book on amazon.com and someone gave it a low rating due to the fact the recipes use cake mixes. Not fair! First of all, she uses mixes because it ensures that YOUR attempt at the recipe should equal the goods she made from the same recipe. How many times have you made a cake or cupcake recipe from scratch and it didn't turn out - likely due to the quality of the ingredients. By using a cake mix, you have a better chance of a great product. Secondly, no one will guess you used a mix, as there are other items added to "ramp it up". I have made numerous cupcake recipes from her website and they have all been a success. Her frostings are to die for as well. You will not be disappointed by this book at all. As soon as they are back in stock, I am ordering three more to give as gifts to family members.

Lizzie has so many choices in this terrific book. No baker should be without it. Easy to follow directions and great flavour combinations. This book is a winner
