25kg Bags of Agricultural British Gypsum. Soil Enhancer (2)

Good quality gypsum. Just what is needed to break up heavy clay soils and release the nutrients normally locked into the wet sediment. Not for the faint-hearted, as if you find you have a heavy topsoil covering a seam of wet clay (mine was undisturbed since the Cretaceous period) it does take deep digging, a ton of organic matter and breaking down the clay prior to mixing with gypsum. I dig down two feet, remove a lot of the really solid clay (have used it to reinforce a wall, ), make gashes into the clay at the base and fill with a mix of gravel, wood chippings and gypsum, then backfill with any clayey topsoil mixed with gypsum, well-rotten manure and compost. Then it will never need digging again, just top-dressing every year with more organic matter.

Easy to use and spread . Early days yet to see what difference makes to clay soil only just started to use.

It takes a bit of heavy digging and then mixing to use this stuff, but it’s well worth the effort. I will buy more.
