How do you fit them because i'm totally useless at diy?

Hi. The part with the lift up flap goes on the inside of the window frame and the larger grill part goes on the outside of the frame. I drilled a series of holes along the line of where I fitted the vent to provide the airflow using a very sharp new drill.

Do these go on the window or above on the frame?

They can go on either, but the frame is best

1. Should the flap open up or downwards? 2. How often/long should they be open for to stop the condensation/damp please?

Flap hinge should be at the top and the flap open upwards. Mine are left open permanently and effectiveness is dependent on size of room, size of window and the temperature / humidity of the environment.
