Q: Can a chicken stand up when the lid is closed (beer can chicken)

Would depend on the size of the chicken -- you might struggle with a particularly large bird (as we all have at some point in life...)I'd say if that's the main use you have you might want to go for a different option -- although if you're going to be using the side smoker you could probably fairly easily put the bird in without the grill plates in the main compartment... it's not a huge interior though.

Oh dear. I Purchased this one over a year ago now, and remember the issues. I'm very surprised to see that it has not been remedied! I did manage to construct it, but had to rely heavily on the actual photo of the item, and those of barbecues of a similar design. If you do this, just don't tighten anything completely so you'll be able to undo it if it's not correct. An extra pair of hands will also help, especially for securing the legs to the main body. Of course, the correct answer is to return it for a refund, so the manufacturers eventually provide useful instructions.

Q: Is the grill area one large grill or multiple smaller sections that can be taken apart?

The large grill area is in two sections and the small area is in one.
