This is slightly bigger than I was looking for, but that said, it offers a LOT of protection. This is a three piece design, where the phone goes into a semi-soft rubber tray. The outer shell is two piece hard plastic that snaps together.Someone mentioned about it "coming apart" when they dropped it. IDK how far they dropped it from, but I'm not sure how that could be possible, unless it falls just right. Even then, it's coming apart after impact, so the phone should be fine. I only mention this because one could put a SMALL drop off glue on the latch locks, if you routinely drop your phone out of helicopters.The screen is protected (as is the back and sides) by about a 1/4" of raised, hard plastic, edge, from the case. The top and bottom are the semi-soft rubber sleeve material, and still 1/4". The corners are the same, but protrude even further. So if this lands on one of top or bottom edges... it will have the maximum amount of shock absorbtion without possibly damaging the case. I wouldn't worry about damaging the phone. You would have to, pretty much, run it over with a bulldozer to do that. If it lands on the side, the raise corners should take the impact, in much the same way, but the side are the hard plastic shell. It was probably designed this way so it was more comfortable to hold, over time.I am using a hard (glass) screen protector, and it works without issue. The case slightly covers the face edge of the phone, covering the gap that the screen protector left (of probably .015")The case doesn't block the speaker, in fact, it might sound a little better, because, again, there is a pretty large channel at the bottom, cut out for the speaker and power port.I don't notice and signal degradation, on either WiFi or cellular, which plagues some cases.On the back, the finger print sensor, s well as the camera cut out, is concave. It looks stylish and doesn't sacrifice functionality for protection. Again, the phone is nestled in about a quarter of an inch.The buttons on the side are very nice. Not just in looks and tactile feel, but they work exceptionally well. Much higher quality than others. I actually got a highly rated "ceramic" (that wasn't ceramic) case, before this one, that was terrible and I returned it. One of the reasons was... the buttons.You can compare this to cases twice the money and the fit and finish of this, is much better. This is basically an Otterbox design, let's face it.

This case is ugly but works great. I've literally bounced the Essential phone across concrete numerous times without even a scratch on the phone. Pair it up with a Skinomi screen cover (the one that's slightly smaller for use with phone cases) and I don't even have any scratches on the screen. This case has big soft rubber bumpers on the corners and hard plastic around the middle, so it's really great at handling even serious bumps, and it also keeps the fingerprints off the Essential's beautiful ceramic.It's also really a good deal -- a much better deal than the bigger brands.Try this one for every day use, and then pull out a really nice case on special occasions.It does look a bit grungy after a month or two, but a bit of soap and water will fix that up. A bit of the satin black finish has worn off the edges of the hard plastic areas after a few too many drops, but that's to be expected.Overall, if I could rate this higher than five stars, I would, and the price is definitely perfect too. Don't think twice about it -- if you have ever damaged an expensive phone in the past, then you know that a good case is worth its weight in phone.

I am really loving this case, it fits very well, the only small issue I had was there was a little extra rubber over the buttons from when it came out of the mold so when I put the plastic part on the buttons would get stuck but I trimmed it with an x-acto knife and it was all set, it would be nice if it came in more colors like black rubber and a metallic blueUpdate**2/28/18I just dropped my phone from 10 feet in the air with this case on, watching my phone fall made my heart twist, when it but the ground it bounced 4 times, not even one time did I hear hard plastic hitting the ground, it bounced on the rubber parts of the case, this case saved my phone, it has it protected so well, I'm so happy I chose this case otherwise my phone would've been cooked, content a must buy if you want your essential protected!!

Update, this is my go to care for protection. The rubber surround works great for absorbing. Essential phone rocks too.Has good grip. I have a Glost case as well. The Glost will be for special occasions when I want to dress the phone up with a nice stylish case. But this case works great for normal day use. I feel this will protect the phone better. This case added noticable bulk, helps for holding the phone better though.Buttons work good.Would like the hard plastic parts to have rubberized texture for more grip. And The top lip on the front to be smoothed down so the on screen drop down bar is easier to access.

Excellent case. Feels very sturdy. I feel confident this will help phone survive fall. And price is great. I only give 4 stars because the case pushes against my glass screen protector which causes bubbles around the bottom especially. If this could be fixed 5 star 100% awesome case

It's a decent case, fits wellIt's a bit slick, too slick, a bit slipperyMakers should consider a matte and textured finish other than that the design is goodI've dropped a few times, half of the time it was because it slipped out of my hand, but it's held up fine with each dropThese phones definitely need cases because of the curved screen on the edges, before this case a couple of drops led to a couple of chips.

This case is definitely lower quality. The plastic feels cheap and the case is extremely bulky. It makes it harder to use anything near the edges, as this case has the front protector. It looks like a nice case, at first glance, however, it is definitely a cheaper one. I will only use it for traveling do to how cumbersome it is.It definitely looks like it'll help survive a fall or too, though, which is why I've given it 3 stars.
