Product Description 2014 release, the second album from the Los Angeles Metal outfit. Volumes are a collection of five young musicians coming from a wide array of musical backgrounds, ranging from Jazz, Classical, Post-Rock to Rap and of course Metal. Volumes eclectic tastes blend together to forge a creative bond between several types of genres that are worlds apart. The combination of their efforts results in fusions between intricate patterns, melodies, and progressive, yet-not-to-be-overlooked-aggressive, straight to the point, Metal. This particular blend of musical styles strives to find a balance between chaos and tranquility.

Until Hammersmith
There is a lot of hate out there for this record. The appearance out of nowhere of clean vocals from Michael Barr, demonstrating a set of pipes that Tyler Carter of Issues would be proud of. Suddenly Volumes have gone from mixing with the DJent of Periphery to having songs with sound like they belong to the heavier end of Issues, Crown The Empire or Myke Terry era Bury Your Dead. It's a massive leap which will alienate some fans. That's not to say there aren't some older style songs on here. There are and they are brutal. The album is essentially 8 songs and 2 interludes, of which there are 4 old style and 4 new style. The album as a whole demonstrates storytelling ability and atmospheres, bordering on a concept album at times. Going from falling in love to being in love to breaking up. For me, it's solid and interesting in its Diversity and where Volumes previous efforts could be relentless at times this changes it up and keeps you coming back.

Great album, disappointing length.
Both vocally and instrumentally this album is superb, but (after negating interludes) with only 8 tracks, it's hard to justify paying much for it. I love the album but would only recommend picking up the CD if you are a die hard fan of Volumes specifically or djent as a whole.

Most Diverse Release Yet
It required seldom song plays over the course of a few months to really appreciate this band and all their work, but after listening to their EP and two albums, I was hooked. I personally believe this album to have penetrated a boundary that was evident in Via and The Concept of Dreaming. Simply put, Volumes has matured over the years and this album is the new milestone that proves it. Not to dismiss their past works by any means, this statement of course is based all on personal opinion.Overall, this album like all others is predominantly percussive. All the guitars do not feature plentiful melodies throughout, mostly open stringed chugs combined with brief runs on the lower strings which typically would bore me as most modern core bands aim for palm muted chugging on the guitar and nothing greater, but these guys do it very well. There are also a few songs that feature progressive melodies which is certainly refreshing. Many also contain a clean guitar playing chords behind the main guitar channels. I greatly appreciate the intricacy in the drums. Complex grooves all around that draw your attention especially if you're a drummer yourself without sounding too maniacal that the drums just dominate the music. In vastly broad terms, the lyrics seem to delve into interpersonal/social conflicts conveyed with an anxious tone. In my opinion, a few songs sound somewhat similar to one another, but there are mostly clear distinctions at the same time. This album is far from boring. If you are a djent fan, enthusiast, entrepreneur, scientist, a djentologist, this CD is worthy of finding a spot in your music library.

Crank Up The Volumes!!
Been looking for that new sound to listen to and hear it is! Volumes! I had no clue who these guys were until I saw them on tour with Upon A Burning Body, and also with Veil of Maya. They have a very powerful sound, not many artist can have lyrics that touch me, but this band figured out a way to do so, check out this album "No Sleep" and be sure to check out track 3, "Erased", it will pull you in!

volumes grows stronger.
volumes goes in a little different direction with the clean vocals more in their songs i gave this 4/5 stars because even though all the songs are great its just short especially with all the instrumentals on here still love this band

A game changer.
A metal band with an attitude and a soft side. From heavy, low tuned, breakdowns to ambient melodic parts that are soothing to your ears. Not much singing but when there is, it'll be stuck in your head forever. Another thing that sets this band apart from others is their dual screaming vocalists. Many go for the whole "djent" sound but these guys can definitely pull it off without sounding generic. Great structure both lyrically and musically.
