A Practical Alternative To Mains Powered Lighting
This is my first foray into the solar light market, and I am really impressed with this product. I can't believe how much solar lights have improved in the last ten years. This light offers real, practical value around your home. The Evo feels well made, durable, good weather resistant seals, and has a nice finish. The instructions are in clear English, not Chinglish! I'm not very experienced with DIY, but even for me, I found the light and solar panel very easy to install, and it comes with the required screws, rawl plugs and washers. I have the solar light facing West, with the solar panel mounted on the South side of the property. The 5 metre cable gives a lot of mounting flexibility, and I believe a further 5 metre extension cable can be purchased from The Solar Centre if required. The range of the motion detection is not far short of one our mains powered halogen security lights. I'd guess it is about 25ft to 30ft, with a consistent range of detection across about 160 degrees.I have only had the light a relatively short time, but so far it has been charging well during March (South East UK), and that has included some overcast days. It’s difficult to quantify the level of illumination. Clearly it is not as bright as a halogen security light. It doesn’t give that “night turns to day effect”, but it provides a strong level of illumination over an area of about 30ft by 20ft. That’s with the light mounted at a height of 15ft. Our garage is about 30ft away from the light, and even at that distance, it is bright enough to easily see the keyhole on the garage door.Obviously, this all varies based on mounting height, and the angle you set the light at, but the above gives you something to go on.The angle of the light can be changed only in the vertical plane (tilted up and down). The motion sensor can be tilted in the vertical and horizontal plane (up, down, left and right). For those that care about the colour temperature of the light. It is a warm, yellowish light. The solar light has three settings on the bottom of it:Length of time the light stays on (10 seconds to 9 minutes)Sensitivity of movement detector (short range to high range)Lux - ambient light detection (dusk until dawn sensor)If I have one complaint about this light, it is that it activates when there is still a fair amount of daylight. I have the Lux setting adjusted to the lowest light level, but it still comes on too early in the evening, and therefore potentially wastes some of the battery charge. It is a small complaint, but something that could be easily addressed in the manufacturing process.Overall, a good product which I have recommended to others.

Bad security lights
I bought two were very bright at start one sensor failed after a couple of weeks to turn it you had to put hand inches in front of it then wouldn't stay on then other failed after a couple of months both useless , they stay on at candle light all the time great security lol , the solar panel when bought thought looked cheap and was right in ice the sides of the picture frame expand out, to clarify bought three spear Jackson solar panel security lights at ÂŁ15 not ÂŁ70 and three years later still working not like this junk after three months , I feel stupid for buying it. Cheers

Well designed and easily fitted.
I purchased the 700 lumens version. I previously had the older EVO 36 version of this light which stopped working after about 3 years. This newer model seems much more robustly built and much more weatherproof. They have re-designed how the light fits onto the mounting bracket which makes fitting easier, and, more importantly, it will be easier to dismantle if require after it has been in use for a few months. Fairly easy to install, all you need is the ability to drill a few holes in a suitable wall. My light is fitted to an east facing wall which doesn't get much light but the solar panel is fitted round the corner on a south facing wall. There was sufficient length in the connecting cable to enable me to position both parts as I chose. The cable from the solar panel now plugs into and screws onto a short cable fitting from the lamp. Only slight problem here was that when I tried to fully tighten the connector it appeared to move off the thread and slacken off. Solved this by tightening as much as possible then sealing the connection with a piece of duck tape. Note that there is no adjustment when mounting the solar panel. I believe if adjustment was required that this could be achieved by placing some form of packing between the back of the panel and the wall and inserting the screws through that. In the event, the angle was fine and it installed with no problem. After a bit of trial and error setting the timer etc. on the light it was ready to go. There is plenty of adjustment on the angle of the light and also the PIR sensor so most people will be able to set it up exactly as they require. It gives off a soft white light which is much more pleasant than the previous bluish tinged light. I would guess that the light is the equivalent of a 75w - 80w standard bulb. It certainly is a lot brighter than my previous solar lamp. All in all it appears to be a well made and durable product which was ideal for my needs.

It isnt anything like the mains powered bulbs you can buy a lot ...
This is a warmer light than LED. The light sits high up on our stable walls and lights up a walkway, the gate the horses come in through and the muck heap. It isnt anything like the mains powered bulbs you can buy a lot cheaper but it does the job with a decent range. It would be more than enough to light a driveway albeit a lower lighting level than a mains powered one.The solar panel is south facing, on the roof. It doesnt seem to like propping itself up so we had to put something underneath it to hold it up south facing. We have had only one clear day since it was installed but it has definitely remained bright enough to see by. The first day it was a lot dimmer than it is now, so I guess the better its charged the brighter the light. Great option for us in the middle of nowhere with no electrics and no safe place to store a generator
