Audel Carpenter's and Builder's Tools, Steel Square, and Joinery

Did you know you can draw a perfect circle using a steel square? Now I'm an old fogey and learning how much lore goes into the craft.This and other editions are available used for quite a low price, compared to the current edition which is sold at quite a high price and used in shools/training programs. I have not compared the two to see what is different between new and old editions. The first edition of Audel's might have been 1929. It appears much of the original has been kept in successive editions.Another recommended book is Modern Carpentry by Willis Wagner. I got a perfect used copy for $6.00, printed in 1969.

This book should be read by every person who ever owned a steel square. There are so many tables on a "square" that I had no idea what they were for. Now I find that I have had a carpenters slide rule in my possession all these many years and didn't know how to read it. I am still learning actually. So I am one happy wood worker now. I feel I will build my roof on my carport without any problems now and twice as easy. Thanks a million.

This book is a clear explanation of the carpenter square and it's practical uses. A must have for a beginning do it yourselfer. You get the how to as well as the why of the tool and a realization that in many cases it is the measurement and setup of a job that is actually the important part. This book helps with that and will help to ensure many quality completed projects are in your future.
