A Gripping Tale of Desperation and Secrets Unveiled
Vanished: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by Theo Baxter is a suspenseful journey through the depths of fear, familial bonds, and the human psyche. This riveting novel takes readers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and mysteries that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. From the very first page, I was drawn into Maggie Conner’s tumultuous world. The author’s vivid descriptions and intricate character development make it easy to empathize with Maggie’s struggles as a single mother trapped in a household overshadowed by her abusive father. Baxter masterfully captures the tension and fear that permeate their home, setting the stage for the gripping narrative that follows. One of the standout elements of Vanished is its skillful pacing. Baxter weaves a web of suspense that slowly tightens with each passing chapter. The enigmatic disappearances of Maggie’s daughter, Isabel, add an eerie and compelling layer to the plot. Isabel’s inexplicable absences and her inability to recall where she’s been create an atmosphere of unease that keeps you guessing throughout the story. The author’s choice to incorporate the medical and psychological aspects of Isabel’s condition adds depth to the narrative. It’s evident that Baxter conducted thorough research, and this attention to detail enhances the realism of the story. The reluctance of doctors and psychologists to become involved in Isabel’s case is both intriguing and unsettling, making you question who or what might be influencing their decisions. As the story unfolds, Maggie’s determination to save her daughter becomes a driving force that propels the plot forward. Her relentless pursuit of answers takes readers on a journey filled with unexpected twists and shocking revelations. Baxter skillfully balances the unraveling of secrets from the past with the urgency of the present, creating a narrative that is both thought-provoking and emotionally charged. One aspect of the novel that particularly impressed me was the authenticity of the characters. Maggie is a flawed yet relatable protagonist, and her complex relationship with her daughter and her own troubled past adds layers of depth to her character. The supporting cast, including Maggie’s enigmatic mother and the enigmatic doctors, each have their own unique quirks and motivations that contribute to the story’s richness. The writing style in Vanished is crisp and engaging. Baxter’s prose flows smoothly, making it easy to become immersed in the story. The dialogue is realistic and serves to further develop the characters and build tension. The author’s ability to convey the characters’ emotions and inner turmoil is a testament to his storytelling prowess. While I thoroughly enjoyed Vanished and found it to be a gripping psychological thriller, there were a few elements that prevented me from giving it a full five-star rating. At times, the narrative felt slightly convoluted, with multiple subplots and layers of mystery that occasionally made the story hard to follow. Additionally, some of the character motivations and actions, particularly towards the climax, stretched the bounds of plausibility.Despite these minor flaws, Vanished remains a compelling and captivating read that is sure to satisfy fans of psychological thrillers. Theo Baxter has crafted a story that delves into the darkest corners of the human psyche, exploring themes of trauma, resilience, and the lengths a mother will go to protect her child. In conclusion, Vanished: A Gripping Psychological Thriller is a well-crafted and suspenseful novel that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. With its intricate characters, skillful pacing, and a plot filled with unexpected twists, it’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys a thrilling journey into the depths of psychological suspense. While it may not be without its minor imperfections, it certainly deserves a solid four-star rating for its ability to deliver a gripping and emotionally charged narrative that will linger in your mind long after you’ve turned the final page.

Fantastic
Well, I was not expecting that! When I first started this, I wonder what the heck was going on and if would I enjoy it.Then it kicked off, and I could see the twist clear as the day. The MC, however, couldn't or wouldn't. It was then intense book as you wonder was the twist true or were we as crazy as we are led to believe the MC is!?Gah, you can't know anything about this book before going in. You can't. Everything was a surprise to me. I didn't know what the book was about, I just had the title and the book. This is by far my favourite book by Baxter. I was definitely Mary in this book wanting to shake Maggie and give her the hard and heartbreaking truth. I had to watch from the sidelines just mine everyone else.I was hooked from the start and I didn't get enough opportunities to get back to it as quickly as I wanted to. It's dark and deceptive. It had you shouting for answers and yet holding back as you know the answers will change everything. It was just bloody fantastic!!!

Disappointing
I was disappointed in this book because I had basically worked out what was going on very early on and so the twists and turns did not add anything to the suspense for me for this reason. I think the idea behind the book was very clever, just a shame it gave too many hints at what was going on. I'm sure some people will enjoy this book regardless of this as it reads well and the story has a flow to it.

Absolutely Fantastic
I have enjoyed every book that I have read by this author but this one absolutely blew me away. It is so well written with a compelling story line and well developed characters which added a new level to the plot. I loved all the characters but the one that i related the most to was definitely Mary.It was perfectly paced and had me gripped right from the very start. I am so glad I picked this book up in the morning because I couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting. Twisty and unpredictable it kept me guessing all the way through and on the edge of my seat to the point of bum cheek numbness.I loved it, if you haven't read anything by this author yet then I would definitely suggest that you do, you don't know what you missing

Will Maggie find the truth
Maggie Conner must keep her daughter Isabel safe. Someone wants to hurt Isabel, but no-one is listening or willing to help Maggie. When Isabel starts to disappear, not for long but long enough for Maggie to be worried. Where is Isabel going and who with? Maggie starts searching for answers, but that means she must face her past and secrets that have been buried for years. Will Maggie be able to face the truth, that might help Isabel or will it be to much for her. That's all I will saying, as I don't do spoilers. Theo's has done it again with this brilliant, gripping, intriguing and twisted story.

A gripping and sinister read
Maggie is a young single mum living with her 8 year old daughter and her parents. Her father is constantly abusive and her mother always acting strange and distant who generally just sits in their home staring into space.Maggie is scared for her daughters well-being as the constant abusive comments from her father keep her away from him and she keeps disappearing. No one seems to want to help her daughter and seem to just brush her aside.Maggie desperately wants out of this house but will she ever get away?A fantastic and chilling read that had me hooked the whole way through. It was sinister in places and very intriguing. I just wanted to keep on reading to find out more! Absolutely brilliant !.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
