Update on the brooder. I have 20 quail chicks (these are 2 to 3 times smaller than normal chicken chicks. As this brooder doesnt specify what type) and i feel like thats pushing the limits of the brooder at a full week. Quail do grow faster but they are smaller and i feel the requirements for chicken chicks themselves it wouldnt fit as much. The chicks are happy and healthy in here. I doo keep a heating mat as backup just in case and keep one light off as the chicks seem to overheat with 2. And if you see a chick on the ground that looks weird. His name is gimpy and he has a birth defect. His knees backward. This will probably be his home for a bit when i move the other chicks into another handmade brooder.When I bought this brooder cause it looked nice. It came with 3 uv reptile lights. And one was completely smashed when i openend the package thats how it came. I had to wait for my husband to get home as i have 3 broken ribs and i couldnt put it together. So my husband did and this is it. With 2 lights it seems the box is staying at 31 degrees Celsius. Which the stat reads. You need 30 to 35 degree c for chicks. . im leaving it on to see how hot it gets. As i had to move the thermometer closer to the light to get a really good temp reading. And im noting the temp gets higher and higher. Now at 32. Degrees celcius.
