Light and compact. But exhibits colour fringing.
Being the proud owner for the past 2.5 years of an R5 + RF24-70mm L + RF 100-500mm L lenses, a combo which I am supremely happy with, I wanted to overcome the single issue; overall weight. These pro quality lenses are big and heavy. I wanted an option for a smaller and very light prime lens so that I'd be more inclined to carry the camera around in scenarios I normally wouldn't bother. A James Reader YouTube video persuaded me to take the plunge, especially as the lens was available for £250 GBP (this is probably the common price now). The compact nature and tiny weight are perfect in those respects. But the lens is less than a 10th of the price of the 24-70mm L lens for a reason, I quickly found, first by the noise of the autofocus motor (not terrible, but noticeable) and when examining the photos in Lightroom. Fringing: both green and purple fringing is very evident when zoomed in. Neither is it as sharp, but not terrible. The colour "purity" is also not quite there. For "happy snaps", it's fine. But mated to a R5, it does kind of defeat the object of having a good camera body. I'll keep it as it's not too expensive, and I will try to use the camera more now that it's lighter and more compact. But only in very limited situations.4 stars as it's OK for the price.I'm a relatively experienced but amateur photographer, for context. I don't shoot video.

The lens I received was GREY market lens, so it is not supported by Canon UK.
The lens I received was GREY market lens, so it is not supported by Canon UK.Apart of that, the lens was making strange noises plus was ticking when on standby. Not recommended.
