Im hesitant to buy this product since it is from china. Should I be?

Hi Casey. Go and search for the Starkish spirulina and you will find my comment signed by Taine. In this comment, I explain how disappointed I have been by buying their spirulina and that I re-ordered the brand Earth Circle even though it's not labeled as "organic". You will find what Earth answered me (I copied their answer). So I keep using this spirulina as in the past and found it one of the best ones. Good luck !

Which one is the chemical known to the state of California to cause birth defects or reproductive harm?

Californian law requires us to put this notice on our product if we have any ingredient that tests over 1/1000th of what the World Health Organization terms as “Safe Harbor Levels” of a huge list of chemicals, including naturally occurring minerals. Our Spirulina, for example, is extremely nutrient-dense and contains naturally occurring minerals including minute traces of lead. This is common for all-natural foods grown on clean soils. Earth Circle Organics gets tested EVERY batch for lead and other minerals. We pass with flying colors and test consistently at exactly 2.6mcg/kg, or about 2.6 MICRO grams per 10-gram serving. This is well within safe limits with the FDA. This is 5/1000th of the World Health Organization’s “Safe Harbour” amount, and, since it is over 1/1000th, we have to put the warning on shipments to Californian customers due to Prop 65. The lead in our product is a trace amount, and naturally occurring. To put this in perspective: the amount of lead contained in a serving of our Earth Circle Organics product is below the naturally occurring lead found in plant foods. The USDA recommended 3-5 servings of vegetables daily could easily contain up to ten times more lead than the maximum allowed by California prop 65. Here are two examples that should put this in perspective: Natural green beans contain 28.75 micrograms of lead in a one-cup serving, which is an exposure of approximately 50 times the allowed Prop 65 levels. This is 10 times the amount of lead in a serving of Earth Circle Organics Maca Natural spinach contains approximately 5.2 micrograms of lead in a typical adult serving size which is an exposure that exceeds Prop 65 levels by 10 times. This is double the amount of lead in a serving of Earth Circle Organics Chlorella. If you were to have a serving of green beans, a serving of spinach, and a serving of brussels sprouts in a day (all grown on natural, clean soils) you could be taking in 80 times the Prop 65 limit and 16 times the amount of lead in a serving of Earth Circle Organics Spirulina Now, we don't have to put the warning on shipments anywhere else in the WORLD as the FDA, Europe, and Australasian safe tolerance level for lead (ie, you must be below this level to sell as a food or supplement), is well over our lead level, and no other state, or country, has this rule like California. In short, Prop 65 has been criticized heavily at that 1/1000th notification requirement. However, we must comply with the law, so until the Prop 65 legislation changes, our warning sticker is here to stay. We have included some frequently asked questions and more information below. Yah get this!!

So..if you EVER have an issue with pooping, GET THIS. I started a morning smoothie in the ninja (replacing coffee most days) with spinach, wild blueberries, banana, honey, cinnamon, ginger, cilantro, barley grass and THIS. Yes it looks like swamp sludge but tastes great and TMI moment here...have pooped 3x a day religiously since starting this. I can't leave reviews for spinach or bananas so it has to be this. The shocking color of your BMs prove this stuff is amazing for the gut and amazing for digestion and elimination. Also can't taste it with all the sweet detox stuff mixed in. The sheer amount of what you eliminate will blow your mind. I feel great also.I'm a fan for life.

Don't like the smell but I use it in my smoothies so I can't taste or smell it . It has iron in it. very healthy for you.

Prepare for the smell

It smells like fish when you open it and it never changes hahaha. It’s a small bag. Changes the color of the entire drink , but doesn’t really change the flavor profile of the drink itself.

Chalky taste

I know this isn’t supposed to taste “the best”, but it was downright awful. I’ve had other powders in the past and this one was by far the chalkiest. The bag was also smaller than I expected, but the packaging was good and it came on time.

What a dissapointment, I thought I was supporting a real USA small organic business, but the Spirulina states on the bag it is a product of China, but no where in the description does it say it is from China. Upon opening the bag, it smelled off, it smelled fishy, it was not the deepest green I associate with other Spirulina I have purchased. It does not smell like a clean food product. IT states on the bag also that it is Satisfaction Guaranteed, but it states on Amazon site it is not returnable, and there is no product support link to contact the company direct. The company as well does not appear to have a legit business website to contact them about the issue of the smell and quality of the product. Buyer Beware.
