Tails

Lovely and cute book
I received the book today. My daughter has not seen it yet, but I am so happy going through it that I thought I should take the time to write my review.First of all - the quality of the book is great - offwhite thick paper with a variety of other materials combined for the opportunity to touch and feel. I've had the Heads book for almost two years - nothing has fallen off unless my daughter (7 months back then - too early, yes, I know, first time mother wanted to buy everything!) tore them off. The Tails book feels pretty much the same in terms of quality as the Heads book in its newer days - so I hope this will last for a couple of years to come. Also, there's a number of tabs and flap for animation effect - all operates smoothly, nothing stuck, nothing requires stronger force than that from a 2 year old. Best of all, the Tails book feels light - much lighter than the Heads book, and off smaller size too, so it will be much easier to handle for my daughter and other small kids.Secondly, the illustration is as cute as expected from Matthew Van Fleet. What a delight to look at those animals, in colors that are bright but also pleasant for the eyes - all with different tails, tails in different positions, shapes, touches, and (spoiler) smells! The last one is a true surprise, I had never seen it coming based on my Heads book experience. It lightens my heart just looking at them - all the touching, pulling tabs, opening flaps are great extra bonuses.Education-wise, I'm sure my daughter will learn a lot of new things from this book. Animals she has never seen, even in a zoo. New adjectives, verbs, and words. To actually know how those tails feels like when she touches them, or even smells like when she smells them ... I love this book! So, if you are a parent (or anyone) and looking for a fun book to read, hold, touch, and play with your child (or just any small kid), look no further. I'd say the best age for this book is from 18 months to 3 years(just so it will not be torn :)) ... but other than that, my daughter has enjoyed the Heads book since she was 7 months and still loves it now, despite all those moving things that have gone missing because of ... her! I'd say the useful life of this book will be very long, and it will be very much loved by your little ones. Now off to surprise my daughter!

Terrific Tail Tale
My 15 month old daughter received this book for Christmas, and it is AWESOME. She already liked the traditional "touch & feel" books, and "Tails" is a big step up.The story is a limited verbage, rhymey discussion of different types of tails. It has elements of the basic touch & feels - different furry tails and bumpy tails, but it goes even further. It has a flip out page with a BIG peacock tail that has shiny/sparkly circles to touch (my daughter's favorite), a pull-up tab with tails on each side, and 2 pull tabs that "wag" tails. There is also a "scratch n sniff" stinky skunk tail, but to be honest, we've never actually tried that one!The illustrations are colorful and fun, with friendly animals to engage your child. This book is quite sturdy. The pages aren't the board book pages, but sort of a double layer of cardstock - very solid. The tabs to pull are thick, not flimsy. We did have trouble with one of the tails that wags, a pig's tail that has a thin tail with a poof at the end, because my daughter tugged it several times and ripped the poof off. Fortunately, there is still enough tail to go "swat, swat, swat".This is a really fun book that reads fast, has lots of page turning, and something new and fun on each page. It really captures my daughter's attention. Sometimes she grabs "Tails" and shoves it at me to read to her, and sometimes she sits down with it and "reads" it to herself. We spend a LOT of time with this book.I'm buying some more of these books to give as gifts, and recommend this books as a BUY for everyone!

Very cute book
I bought this for my 11 month old daughter when she had become obsessed with Pat The Bunny. I was looking for another "Touch and Feel" style book. This book has several furry tails, levers one can pull to move cardboard tails, as well as a couple of pull out slides and one scratch and sniff sticker. My daughter is particularly fond of a couple of the furrier tails, and she enjoys it when I tug the levers to move the cardboard tails.I can recommend this book without reservation, but my daughter does prefer a couple of other books we've gotten for her, such as Pat the Bunny and others. Perhaps she will like this one more as she grows older. Right now it entertains her, but it's not her favorite. The book is sturdy and well-made, but my toddler requires supervision when playing with it lest she rip it apart.

love the book
So, we have already had this book, but we had bought it used and three kids later it was done. So, I ordered a new one, love the book, but the new one is different. There are no porcupine quills to feel on the first page, and the peacock feathers are made of a flatter, less shiny material. Silly I know, but my two year old pointed it out and was quite upset, he's actually the reason we had to buy a new one, he ripped the swat, swat, swat page, but still wanted to read it all the time, but then said broken so sadly every time. So, I love this book, all three of my kids have loved this book, I just wish it looked like the original we had.

my son's favorite book
My 14 month is constantly in motion. He has never been one to sit still and let me read to him, which has been discouraging. He received this book for his 1st birthday and for the first time, he loved a book! When he first got it, he would sit and experience the book for ten minutes at a time. He loves all the different 'activities' and stimulating extras. At first he just wanted to pull on the pop up type of things but now that he has read it a hundred times, he likes to look at the pictures and point at the different animals and their features. As a result of his interest in this book, he is now willing to look at other books. Tails has been our gateway book and is still his favorite. I am so grateful for it!

Good quality book with lots of variety
This book has many different textures - lots of fuzzy tails, some shiny feathers, bumpy crocodile skin, and scaly tails. It also has a few pull tabs which wiggle the tails, and even a scratch and sniff skunk (yep! you read that right!) Sometimes I find the touch and feel books lack enough different textures, or are all pretty smooth (like flat fleece etc). This book has nice fuzzy and fluffy pictures - it's actual faux fur.Overall I'm very pleased with it. My daughter seems to really enjoy looking at all the colorful pictures, and there's a good variety of elements to keep her interested. The illustrations are also pretty cute - very friendly/happy looking characters. My only one complaint is that the pig's tail is a bit thin so my poor piggy went from having a curly tail to a little stump on the first day we got the book, but it's not really a big deal. My daughter seems to laugh at that page regardless!I am excited to purchase his Alphabet book too!

Brilliant for babies and toddlers
This book will get your baby interested in books. S/he can touch the different textures of the tales. It also teaches counting. My son loved it, now I'm buying it for a friend's grandchild.

Another Van Fleet Classic !!
My daughter was given a few books at her 12 month child care appointment, and since she showed immense interest in those, keeping an eye on the future we invested in a library that could last for a few years and still remain relevant. My favourite feature of all Mathew Van Fleet books is there construction and ability to withstand toddlers hands. This was the 6 Van Fleet book we purchased and once again the ways in which you can use these books is more than one. Different tails with textures, some of not so commonly found animals. My daughter 16 months now, loves all of these books.I would recommend anyone looking to introduce books to their child as in to sit and go through something. These books made my daughter transition to Lift the flap books and now she even sits through 10 page story books.
