Dinner prep is now quicker
I owned a food slicer years ago, but one of my kiddos sliced their finger on it so I haven't had one since. When I saw this one, the first thing I read was Safe Food Chopper, so that got my attention. I thought I'd give one of these another try. It's really easy to use! You can easily adjust the thickness of what you're slicing, it keeps your hands completely away from the blades, there's slicing/chopping options without having to change any blades. It also folds up to store, although it still has all the accessories you need to store as well. I have a small kitchen, so storage space is limited. It cleans easy enough, but it might be a little extra effort depending on what you are slicing. This little gadget has made it easier for prepping dinner, and my kids are able to use it without slicing any more fingers.

Chops Quickly! Finer cuts not as consistent
So I do have a big scary mandoline slicer by Cuisinart that I use pretty often, but thought I'd try this Jonscook chopper out and see how it compares.Likes:1. The Jonscook slicer is smaller and more compact, so it takes up less space in the cupboard.2. It is *incredibly* safe. You would almost have to be trying to hurt yourself to do so. For example, if you put your fingers all the way down the chute instead of using the provided pusher tool, which also ensures evenly applied pressure. There's no reason to put your hand in the chute. Anyone who has ever julienned their wrist on a mandolin, as I have, knows the risks involved and can appreciate this safety feature.3. It chops fast! I found myself looking for more stuff to chop because it's kind of fun.4. It *does* dice, if you first slice your vegetables and then stack them in the chute with the julienne blades up.5. The julienne function works really well, as you can see by the daikon and carrot mixture in the photos I've posted. It made very quick work of mushrooms that I needed cut small too. It has two sizes, so you can make them narrow or wide, plus 8 different settings for the thickness.6. There's a basket that conveniently catches the food as it comes out.7. To clean, there is very little disassembly involved, so fewer chances of hurting yourself at that point of the process. The blade stays covered. But do still make sure you retract the blades and return them to the zero setting when you're done cutting. It will aid in clean up and further prevent any risk of injury.Dislikes:1. The food has to fit in the chute, so if you want to make French fries they aren't going to be very long. But I did make some and they were fine. Just a bit on the short side.2. The thinnest slices are not as thin as you would get with a true mandolin slicer.3. When you dice something like a carrot into small pieces, the spring-loaded chopper gets a little wild and tiny bits fly out after they're cut. This didn't happen with the mushrooms, I guess because they just don't have as much mass.4. The dicing function isn't as consistent as the slicing and julienne functions. But it did make cut vegetables smaller.5. So the fact that it doesn't come apart near the blades does make cleaning just a bit tricker, but not much. There's a small cleaning brush included that does work well.In brief, I think this chopper is pretty cool and perfect for certain jobs, like making slaw, shredding vegetables for big ferments, maybe cooking with kids, slicing cucumbers, slicing half of a white onion quickly, grating potatoes, especially if you are cooking for a lot of people and need to get it done quickly. It is low-tech and safe. I love that you don't have to plug it in and you don't have to watch your fingers like you do with a traditional mandoline.Because of my personal preference and limited real estate, I will probably just keep using my scary mandoline instead and gift this to a lovely friend who does a lot of cooking but is terrified of her husband's mandoline! I hope this helps.

Great slicer with safe operation
This mandolin slicer protects your fingers by functioning from the top, and you don't have to hold what you're cutting close to your fingers and a sharp blade like traditional slicers. You insert your item into the chute and then press down to initiate slicing. There is an adjustable dial in the back of the unit to control the thickness. The slices empty into a bin that is placed under the slicer. This was easy to set to right out of the box with no assembly and pretty useful instructions with good illustrations. It sliced very easily and gave perfect cuts very fast. While this says you can dice and julienne, which is true, but does require you to slice first and THEN put the slices into the chute and cut again to achieve that style of cut. I plan to mainly use this for salads, so cucumbers, carrots, etc. If you've ever accidentally gotten your finger on a traditional mandolin, you'll love the operation and stress free cutting this provides.

Compact Design, Gets The Job Done
I was very impressed with the simple design and how easy it is to use, and to store it away. After setting it up on the table, I took a potato and experimented with the chopper. The large round knob is used to adjust the thickness of slices, going from 0 - 8, the higher the number, thicker the slices. After slicing my potato, I then reloaded a few of the slices into the chute, and after turning only 1 of the smaller knobs in the back all the way clockwise, I started to slice the potato again, and this time the slices came out like thick french fries. Then, I turned the other small knob all the way clockwise, and sliced a few more potato slices. The result was more like standard thin french fries. This little demonstration gave me a better understanding of how the controls work, and their effects. So, I am just getting started, but I am now able to be more creative and will try a few more different combinations of the controls to see the full capabilities of this food chopper. The beauty is also that it is very easy top clean with the included brush, and it folds up neatly for storage. I would recommend this product, and consider it a great value for what it does.

Not easy for dicing potatoes
Instructions are not that great for dicing potatoes not easy to clean since you can’t reach a lot of the debris inside gets stuck and you need a long stick to get them out.
