To clone existing hdd, i connected as external drive w/ usb cable. win10 toshiba recognizes as 'as2105 usb mass storage device'. how to clone?

Don't even bother download the .iso file from Microsoft along with it's burn to flashdrive or dual layer dvd must be dual layer normal single layer has a 4.4 gig limit I know all these limits on this n that but Microsoft's software to make a flash drive actually works flawlessly, Just use a flash drive an 8 gig is the smallest you can use there more durable than a disk and most are going to have to run out and buy one everyone usually has a 8 gig flashdrive laying around ok now back to the downloading of the .iso file listen up it's important you can't use a flash drive there formated in fat 32 and fat has a 4 gig file size limit so you can try to format it in NTFS which is strange in Windows sometimes it's greyed out what I do is I don't even burn the Iso until after the fresh install I use a second hard drive or a portable an right click on .iso file make sure it's on the second disk not the disk the operating system is on it won't work but right click on is file and choose mount as disk and the iso file will mount itself and act like a disk double click that choose c drive or whatever you use for you Windows installation and the install begins it's super fast you don't need a key Windows can tell what operating system was on the computer when you purchased it you must have bought your PC with at least windows 8.1 to get the free windows 11 update not windows 8 it won't work must be 8.1 why clone just copy or backup whatever you need to a portable drive or a flashdrive your changing srom sata to nvme two totally different things a fresh install is recommended anyways you can Google it if you  want but will get same answer if you must clone have at it a fresh install from a current Microsoft iso file will update most of your driver's your nrt framework and more hope this helps

Hardware compatibility does not mention windows 10, so is it supported ? and does this come with the magician disk for data transfer ?

Yes windows 10 is supported I just added this to a new Acer Laptop that has Windows 10 Home.  It did not come with a disk for any software.  You will need to go to their website and get the Data Migration software and load that to clone the drive.  Also get the SAMSUNG MAGICIAN software, that will optimize the drive with a number of settings and let you know about firmware updates for the drive.     https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/

Currently have 500gb hdd with less than 100gb of files. can i clone drive to 250gb ssd or do i need to get a 500gb ssd?

Yes you can download the Samsung Magic Data Transfer software that will transfer ALL the data including the operating system. . A 250 will work fine for only 100gigs of data. If it was me I would get the 500GB drive because it will hold so much data you can always transfer the drive to your next computer. My belief is it's better to have to much than not enough. I currently own the 1 TB Evo and the 1 TB Pro both Samsung. If you are on a budget go with the 250. Good Luck! If you have the cash go long term you are bound to gather more data!

Is this compatible with an early-2011 MacBook Pro?

Yes. It should work just fine in any laptop that accepts 2.5" SATA drives. For MacBook Pros, that means machines through the mid-2012 model. Don't forget to move your Torx screws over to the new drive!
