Hercule Poirot’s Silent Night: The New Hercule Poirot Mystery

Review
The story is gripping. At times, long sentences forces a re-reading of the same. At little more attention on sequencing may be given.

A slow read
Not an expected " Agatha Christie". Dialogues are drag. The book could have edited to 250 pages.

Deliciously Sinister.
Cynthia Catchpool, mother of Edward Catchpool invites Poirot & Catchpool to spend their Christmas with her in a crumbling mansion and asks him to solve the murder case of Stanley Niven, a retired post master. As Poirot investigates, he finds that the man was liked by every one but then who would want to kill him and why?Vivienne, a friend of Cynthia whose husband, Arnold is soon to be admitted into the same hospital is worried about her husband's life. She's sure that her husband is going to be the next victim but is not telling why.How will Poirot solve this confusing murder mystery? Read this book to know more.I loved each and every character although I missed Hastings. Poirot is my favourite character.Narration of the story was excellent. It kept me hooked from page one. I wasn't able to put it down. I really wanted to know how this confusing murder mystery will end.Hannah did a wonderful job of describing the motive of the killer behind those murders. Although I didn't like that killer. I just loved how Poirot solved the case. Hannah has added another brilliant mystery to Poirot's collection. I pray to God that she'll write more Poirot stories. This is her best Poirot story till date. Loved it.Overall, this is a must read not to be missed.

Silent Night
Although Sophie Hannah had started off reasonably well, recreating the character of Hercule Poirot, she doesn't (unfortunately) have Agatha Christie's gift for keeping the novel interesting. This book was a bit of a bore, dragging out a hackneyed plot, about a schizophrenic, but not quite succeeding in holding the reader's attention...

surprisingly good
I am a devoted Agatha Christie fan, and I did not think an Agatha Christie copycat novel could be written in her true form, but this is really very good, and very well written in the style of Agatha Christie, but from the point of view of Inspector Catchpool which feels both genuine, and new. I thoroughly enjoyed Sophie Hannah’s creation. I can’t wait to read her other Poirot creations. It is wonderful to have new stories to read about a beloved character.

a great Christmas murder read
Sophie Hannah’s depiction of poirot is little more lighthearted than Agatha Christie’s depiction whilst being an excellent story in itself. This would make a good film as there are so many interesting characters in the book. She does seem to have captured poirot enough to make me imagine David Suchet solving the crimes. I’m not sure about Catchpole as the narrator as I feel he is too dense to be a high ranking policeman. I really liked the book.
