Note that some jacks are 4 pole while others are 3 poles, however, it appears that a 4 will work on a 3, but not vise versa
It is much more difficult than I imagined to solder the tiny wires onto these jacks. Special soldering irons and/or extremely good manual dexterity seem to be required to repair most ear buds.
