Excellent..
I use trung nguwyen s blend coffee for a truly authentic Vietnamese phin (I've tried them all since retiring from my last trip to Vietnam, and this is the best choice by a big margin). 5 teaspoons for this size. Just tighten down with fingers, add a dribble of boiling water then wait a couple of minutes. Fill with boiling water and then wait to drip through. Delicious.

Bought as a partner...
...for an existing fractionally larger four part Vietnamese Maker. No dual screen filter to block, no five fiddly/sharp/awkward disks of metal to assemble for a French press, no filter paper to source/dispose of.Used properly will last for years. Will make a nice rounded cup of coffee or a cup of 1000mile brew.Key to it all is the screw down press. I flick the press and let it spin this down onto the tablespoon of grounds and that seems enough pressure to compress the grounds sufficient for my needs. Screw down hard and back off slightly for a slow percolate/drip and a STRONG cup. Or flick and spin then back off half a turn for a lesser brew. The backing off is important as it lets the grounds expand when they get their first shot of water.Always best made either with a measured charge of fresh boiled water or use a double wall glass mug/cup to save on the unwanted flood...you live and learn.I have used a LOT of Marley Estates Coffee Grounds in their blonde/light roast form to make a nice rounded cup of brew. I have some Medium Roast Blue Mountain to try.Good coffee does not have to be the ground charcoal bitter tasting muck served by every coffee house in the country there is so much more to it...but few are able to provide light/blonde roast to consumers. These little metal cups of balance provide a step along the path of discovery.

Great filter - just beware of size when ordering!
I bought this to replace a very cheap phin I brought back from Hanoi. The item is very well made and I like the screw filter as my previous phin just had a filter that you pushed down on top of the coffee grounds. HOWEVER, you need to be very careful on the size you purchase. I bought this particular size (7) because it was advertised as 200ml capacity. I would estimate it more like 130 - 140 ml though. This means when you use it you only get (in my case) around half a cup of coffee as my cups are 200ml in capacity. This means you either top up the cup or the phin with hot water or resign to having only half a cup! Great in all other respects as the filter itself is very well made and for the price is excellent. Just be careful when ordering to make sure you get the right size!
