Versatile Addition to My Soil Mix for All Plants, Clean and Reliable
My indoor plant collectionโfrom orchids to monsterasโis my go-to stress reliever. I purchased the Sun Bulb Company Inc 50180 Better GRO 4-Quart Orchid Bark in Brown to incorporate into my soil mixtures for all my plants, and itโs been a fantastic, versatile component for keeping them healthy. Product Details: This 4-quart bag offers coarse, brown fir bark chunks, designed for orchids but adaptable for other plants needing drainage. The pre-rinsed bark minimizes dust and tannins, making it ready to blend with perlite, peat, or moss right out of the bagโa time-saver for my busy mornings. Use and Performance: I mix this bark into custom soil blends for my entire plant collection, including Phalaenopsis, Monstera, pothos, and succulents, adjusting ratios for each plantโs needs. For my orchids, it ensures excellent aeration to prevent root rot; for my monstera, it adds structure to support climbing roots. The coarse texture keeps mixes loose, promoting strong root growth across species, and it retains just enough moisture to suit my light, dry home environment. Since using it, Iโve noticed healthier foliage and fewer overwatering issues, even with my finicky plants. Quality and Value: The bark is high-quality with minimal fine particles, reducing mess when mixing or repotting. The 4-quart size is ample for multiple pots, and the resealable bag keeps leftovers fresh for future use. Itโs cost-effective for someone like me who maintains a diverse plant collection. Pros: Versatile for all plants, enhancing drainage in custom soil mixes. Clean, low-dust bark simplifies mixing and repotting. Supports healthy roots and growth across species. Generous quantity offers great value for plant enthusiasts. Final Thoughts: The Sun Bulb Better GRO Orchid Bark is a game-changer for my plant care, seamlessly blending into soil mixes for all my plants with reliable results. I love how it keeps my collection thriving, and Iโd highly recommend it to anyone crafting custom potting blends.

Perfect for my DIY potting mix!
10/10 recommend. if you donโt have the money to splurge on bark - this is absolutely great quality & AFFORDABLE bark. because - & now i donโt know about you but - iโd much rather spend less & get excellent quality bark. itโs a no-brainer really. i add this bark (or the other bettergro orchid bark that has the charcoal + chunky perlite pieces) to my potting mix that i make myself. i use essentially the same mix (a potting mix + bark + perlite + charcoal + worm castings) for my succulents (i add lava rock &/or sand for them, but iโve also used the exact same mix with excellent results) & tropical plants - but with my succulents i like to cut the bark into smaller (maybe nickel sized) pieces; my tropical plants get the larger pieces, depending on the size of the pot, of course. this is why i really like this bark. thereโs nice big pieces if you need them but you can also make them into whatever size you want/need. does it take more time? sure. but if youโre like me.. then your plant babies are worth it. iโd rather buy bark thatโs too big rather than too small. thereโs a lot more you can do with bigger pieces. the biggest thing though - this bark is always really great quality. iโve never gotten a bag that iโve been disappointed with. there are other brands (i wonโt mention names, but the typical cheap brand) and their bark is alwaysโฆ wetโฆ & almost kind of soggyโฆ mushyโฆfalls apart easily - it just seems to be breaking down immediately. i know bark isnโt going to last forever. but if i pot up an orchid, i expect the bark to hold out for AT the VERY LEAST a year, but closer to two really. the other brand didnt even last a year. iโve had a couple of my phalaenopsis orchids in this bettergro bark + charcoal + perlite + long fibered sphagnum moss for a year; succulents & tropical plants are in their pots for sometimes 2 years; i never have to repot because the bark is quickly deteriorating & not doing its job - with bettergro bark, i always repot because the plantโs outgrown the pot. i recently moved from VA to FL & because itโs so humid here iโm wanting to repot my plants; get the LFSM out of my orchid mix - & i came to amazon to find my bettergro bark! seriously - if youโre on the fence about bark for your orchids or tropical plants, iโm telling you, you wonโt be disappointed with this bark. the quality.. i was honestly surprised. iโve used expensive brands & honestly, i prefer bettergro bark.. & price has very little to do with it. try it out. you wonโt be disappointed. just an extra thought - i wish i could get the dendrobium mix by bettergro! i never see it in stores & canโt find it on amazon.

As Described and Good When Potting Fewer Plants
I needed a smaller size amount to finish up one more planter of flowers and lettuce. This type of wood chips helps keep the plants moist, but not soggy. Good quality and quantity to keep plants healthy.

Great value bark
Only want to mention, some pieces were way too big. Also, the bark did not seem to hold water/moisture well.

Good Quality - Appriopriate Medium - Great Value
I started using this orchid bark mix for my orchids 8 months ago and it's holding up perfectly. The orchids are thriving and the mix is lasting. What more can be said.

Great Mix, just do some research on basic orchid care before you
I love this mix a lot.โค๏ธ It worked well for a long time when I used it as a mix additive for a Thanksgiving cactus ( a type of holiday cactus). But I have an actual orchid now. Different orchids require different types of care. That means some orchids require different media to be planted in. This mix is great for epiphytic orchids. But terrestrial orchids will likely need a different type of mix than this one. But I fortunately have an Phalaenopsis orchid, which is an epiphytic orchid. Just an average grocery store orchid really. The Phalaenopsis orchids are very common in grocery stores and quite popular. And they are very easy to care for, as far as orchids go. I have included a picture of one of my orchidโs blooms so you all can use it to better identify a Phalaenopsis orchid. Mine is a white one with a yellow throat with red or magenta markings, and a pale pink anther cap. A very commonly available one, but still very pretty. If you are new to orchids a Phalaenopsis is the best one to choose as your first orchid. You can use sphagnum moss, orchid mix with bark, or a mix of sphagnum moss and orchid mix with bark as a medium with them. Just remember to use distilled water with a diluted fertilizer (like 1/4 strength of a 20/20/20 fertilizer for orchids). And remember to repot your orchid every 1 to 2 years (or more than that if they are outgrowing their pot or the media in the pot is deteriorating). And remember orchids like to be a little bit crowded in their pots. So never go more than 1 or 2 inches wider than the previous pot. And make any necessary trimmings when the time is right for your specific type of orchid. NEVER repot if they are in bloom. Fertilizer like a bloom booster is also optional when they are in bloom. With Phalaenopsis orchids you do not have to fertilize them when they are in bloom. But it is optional in small amounts. NEVER use too much fertilizer with orchids either. They usually do not need a whole lot of it nor a strong one. Too much fertilizer or fertilizer that is too strong will kill them. Avoid strong fertilizer not for orchids and using large quantities of fertilizer.

Great orchid bark works as it should promotes plant growth and has the nutrients the plants need. This orchid bark is fantastic! It provides excellent drainage and aeration, helping my orchids grow strong and healthy. The pieces are consistent in size, easy to work with, and durable enough to last through multiple repottings. Iโve noticed healthier roots and improved growth since using it. Overall, a high-quality and reliable product for anyone caring for orchidsโhighly recommend!

Good Bark for Phalaenopsis Orchids
Used this to repot some phals and they definitely seem to like it. It's well-draining and leaves lots of space for healthy root growth. It's a big bag which was great for the price and the pieces of bark were fresh and not dusty. They're of a reasonable size too, not too big and not too small. I probably wouldn't use this for oncidiums or dendrobiums unless I had mixed it with smaller pieces of bark or perlite though, as it is very well draining and in my climate those orchids do better in more retentive mediums.

Critical inclusion in any soil medium
For any indoor plant collector bark is a must and not just for orchids. Bark allows plant roots to drain and allows for air flow. In my experience Better Gro orchid bark provides a healthy bark I feel safe to include in any soil medium. It is the only bark I use. Definitely recommended.
