I read all of the reviews before purchasing this purse. I went in hopefully, with full expectation of having an odour. There is, indeed, an odour. Also, the leather was a bit dry. I suspect this odour everyone is complaining about is the tannin used to tan (work) the leather. I(t's goat skin. In the review I put three stars for thickness - goat skin is not a thick leather. As with all of my new leather I get, I rework the leather with a cream. For this I used a mink oil. After working the dry leather, it shines, and the lovely colour deepened! But more than that, it came immediately back to life. It just soaked it in. By re-working the leather I also cleaned it, which removed at least half of the smell, and I suspect that the rest will fade.The interior of the purse is a loose woven, green, cotton material, which I have no idea how it will hold up. Again, I'm hopeful. (An aside, the leather bag I bought, from a different seller, appears to have the exact same lining. I'm amused how they match!)Other than the odour and slight dryness issue, both easily dealt with, I really like this little purse. It's actually larger than I had expected, has good pockets, and the zippers are well done. The metal workings on it are average. I suspect this little purse is going to last me a good while. I'm pretty pleased!

The purse I received is on the darker side like other reviewers have said, but I don’t mind.The only thing I don’t love about this bag is the placement of the strap buckle. It’s right in the middle and sits on your shoulder. This kind of makes it obnoxious to put on.The bag does have a odor that smells like horses. To me this is not that strong and really not offensive. It could be to others though I guess. From what I have read online cheap leather can come with this smell because of the curing process, and it never really goes away. It just fades over time. I did find a source that said you can place it in a sealed plastic bag with any kind of odor absorber and it will help.Overall I like the bag and it is just what I was looking for. The smell, however, could be an issue for some people.EDIT: I asked a couple of coworkers about the smell and they said it just smells like leather to them.

I was very happy with this purchase until I actually went to use it because I had overlooked that the closure of this purse is actually the buckle. Unfortunately, I assumed there would be hidden snap under the buckle but no!, you have to actually "unbuckle" the flap every time you want to get in it and "rebuckle" to close it back up.Since I planned on using this as a casual grab and go purse for when I don't want to drag my big shoulder bag around, this was a huge disappointment. I keep thinking I must be missing something ... who wants to go through that much trouble to get in and out of a purse?

I bought this because I was tired of buying “PU leather” purses at Target or other stores that don’t last even a year. I was pleasantly surprised with this bag. I took a chance even though the other reviews complain of the odor, but it isn’t bad, just a mild leather smell like any other leather product. The leather is darker than the picture but that is what I was hoping for, also it’s more soft and supple feeling than I expected at this price. I took off only one star because the leather is thinner than expected and perhaps less durable because of that, but time will tell.*Edit* After a couple years, the bag is still going strong! The hardware has worn from a brass to a nickel color, so I’ll leave one star off for the plating, it looks pretty rugged now but I’m very happy with the durability.

Ruggedly elegant, quality leather, plenty of interior space & pockets. Larger than expected. Leather smell wears off after a few days, no biggie. Versatile & stylish. Very pleased!
