Agatha Christie at Home Hardcover – 28 Sept. 2023

For those who want to know more or those who just love the writer and her books, this opens book is a treasure of discovery that will fascinate from the first to the last page. It is not just about her home Greenways, but much of her family life whilst living in these glorious surroundings. It was a book I just could not put down.

A beautiful memento having visited the property. This book inspired me to visit a second time and will be a much visited book for years to come.

A truly beautiful book about the forever famous lady. Even when I read it Icouldn't put it in the bookcase, it sits on my coffee table, too good to stash away.

When buying a book about a writers' homes one would expect a profusely illustrated work about those houses. Instead this book sprwals about the Devon countryside, chapels and some other non related topics instead of focusing on the houses and their interiors. It wasn't even hard to do a proper job, after all Agatha Christies was a serious collector.

Beautiful photos throughout and interesting and information text about Mrs. Christie. It will make a most super addition to my collection. Arrived in a timely fashion and in good shape. More than pleased.

Ecrit par Hilary Macaskill, Agatha Christie at home est un superbe ouvrage illustré de nombreuses et belles photographies qui permet d'appréhender l'oeuvre de la duchesse de la mort par le biais des maisons dans lesquelles elle vécut. L'on est donc ni dans l'approche psychanalytique d'une Sophie de Mijolla-Mellor (Meurtre familier) ni dans une réflexion sur les mécanismes de l'écriture du crime (dont Annie Combes avait livré une somme impressionnante) mais davantage dans une rêverie évoquant Les promenades d'Agatha Christie signé par François Rivière. D' Ashfield, la demeure idéalisée de son enfance, le lecteur part sur les traces des décors obsédants d'une vie - le Devon, Torquay, Greenway, les chantiers de fouille- qui bien évidemment se matérialisèrent dans nombre de ses romans. Rédigé dans un anglais limpide et facilement accessible, Agatha Christie at Home permet d'entrevoir l'intimité d'une femme qui, 40 ans après sa mort, continue d'intriguer. A noter que l'auteure a publié un album du même acabit consacré à la romancière Daphné Du Maurier.

My introduction to Agatha Christie's works was at the age of nine when an aunt gifted me one of her novels. Thus began a lifelong love of Christie's works as well as a fascination for well-written mysteries. It has been several years since I last read a Christie novel, and I've been getting reacquainted with the author via her autobiography, An Autobiography, and also several other books about the author, Agatha Christie's Secret Notebooks: Fifty Years of Mysteries in the Making, and Agatha Christie: Murder in the Making: More Stories and Secrets from Her Notebooks.Agatha Christie at Home explores the links between Christie's beloved South Devon, where two of her most beloved homes are located, and her works. Of the homes that Christie lived in through her life, two had the most influence on her - the home where Christie was born, i.e. Ashfield in Torquay, and Greenway which she purchased prior to WW II and which she spent most of her summers in (though curiously, did not do much writing in).
