Does it matter if you mount them upside down? I'd rather the wider end be on along the bottom of the cars' mirror and it get narrower as it goes up.

I can't answer that. both mirrors fell of the first 20 - 30 minutes of driving on interstate 95 in Florida, don't buy them they are crap!

The mirrors are easy to install and go a long ways towards eliminating the blind spot. The adhesive pad provides a powerful bond to the mirror. One note: when you are going through an automatic car wash the brushes tend to pull the blind spot mirror off the base which then gets lost or damaged by the machinery. Folding the mirror in prior to entering the car wash helps. So it is a good idea to always keep an extra mirror on hand. I just use a razor blade to remove the broken mirror and slap a new one on. It is a great value for the money and is great quality.
