I brought this and another flint and steel to my sons Cub Scout meetings the last month we have been practicing fire starting without matches or lighters and all of the third graders have really enjoyed learning how to use flint and steel

Well...I did order this...I remember it looked like it would do the trick...I just can't remember what that trick was...(I know I must had a plan for this...just got nothing...) Still, gave it a few runs on some Tinderfire tabs and it works just great. If only I could remember why I felt like I needed it...NO REGRETS!! EVER!!!

this product doesn't strike very many sparks when using it...so, I'm undecided about my thoughts onrecommending this product.Thanks,Mr. Bill

If you have some fire starter material and 5 seconds, you have a fire. Probably one of the best "Prepper" items I have purchased. Not expensive and they just work!!

My husband has used this several times and he is happy with it. We have bonfires and a burn pile as well and it has worked great to start both fires. That may not be what everyone uses this for but it is what we will use it for. The point is that it easily starts the fire and it will get plenty of use around here. He loves the shape of the wood handle as well because it is a nice size and comfortable to use.

On a recent back country trip, the two lighters I had brought were lost on the second day, which would have been disastrous if I hadn't brought this device with me.It took a bit of time the first night I used it to ignite the birch bark shavings I used to start my fire, but once the thin layer of black overcoat is worn away, that issue was gone.Very compact, the carrying case is valuable to help to locate the ferro rod in your pack when you need it.An essential piece of equipment to have with you in the back country, you may want to practice using the ferro rod before leaving.

I absolutely love it

Short version: you can hardly get a tiny spark if your striking with your left hand.Long version: We are "Alone" and "Survivor" fans. Bought these to go camping and have a family contest to see who could start a fire the quickest. We have 1 lefty among us. Everyone else got a fire going in a minute or 2. The lefty went last. Boy oh boy did we heckle him. Then he switched hands. No problem then.Turns out there is a difference. Who knew. Enjoy.

Does exactly as it's supposed to do. Would buy again and recommend them.
