Very nice.
Very nice well made shortwave. It works ok with supplied antenna, but with all shortwaves the better the antenna the better reception. Screen is beautiful, the receive is great. Yes it is pricy but this is a quality unit. I was slow to purchase but i'm glad I did.

This is truly UNBELIEVABLE!!!! 20 out of 10, ultra recommend!!!
Having several original malachite/malahit (Mala) SDRs, there were a handful of fiddly issued that made the experience of the radio more of a gimmick than a true radio. The early versions were like prototypes compared to this unit. I think calling this a finished product is warranted. If there was never another firmware update made, I would predict you'd still be using this radio as is 20 years from now. Until mobile phones are built with an SDR in them...this is likely as good as it will ever get. THIS RADIO IS A TRULY *--COMPLETE SDR PACKAGE!!! First of all the fit and finish of this radio is one of the best implementations of CNC work ive ever had my hands on. Just holding the radio is a treat. Its dense, obviously metal, fine finished. On appearance alone I would not have cared about its performance based on other Mala radios. But, I quickly tested this radio with a simple 0.75m whip and it was as you'd expect 50Mhz and higher. Using one of the new micro SW donut antennas with the radios preamp...OMG...the performance was unreal! In fact...it didn't make sense. This radio out performed my entire fleet of grundig, tecsun and yaesu receivers...without an outside antenna. I'm almost convinced that hooking this radio up to a decent EFHW antenna may allow you to hear the beginning of time! But that's not the point of this radio...its portable and performs as well as a quality base station. full stop. period. (caveat...you should know how to configure a Mala radio from one of the earlier versions). It is true...this radio can decode FT8, CW and RTTY. It also provides much more demodulation options than previous Mala iterations. its capable...In broad daylight, in a brick building with just a donut loop through insulated glass...I could receive and decode FT8. AMAZING. Audio quality is THE BEST I've heard for a small radio. The top end volume is unnecessary unlike the v1.10 units out there. Id say the output power is likely 1 or 2 watts. Its crisp...very broad tone. I would say as good as some smaller JBL Bluetooth speakers. Further, this has Bluetooth audio out...which is amazing. I could go on and on...but I will not. This radio is impressive in every category.

Outstanding in so many ways
Yes there are many setting to consider so take some time to get accounted and make sure you have a good antenna. The sound quality is outstanding, the sensitivity is unbelievable, the visual display is detailed, high quality and keeps your interest for hours. I set up some aircraft frequencies to scan and the quality of voice, frequency sensitivity and ease of each aircraft frequency scan selection is impressive. This is my first SDR so its a new view of radio frequencies for me and the frequency coverage is way beyond any of my other SW radios. My primary use is for VHS emergency frequencies, Aircraft monitoring, GMRS monitoring, FM listening and occasional Ham monitoring. The manual is not detailed so I found just trying each setting and logically experimenting with each menu got me to a workable knowledge of the SDR. This SDR has it all, well worth the dollars spent.

Amazing radio
This is an incredible radio. It has a noise reduction system that blows me away. I was considering a transceiver like the Icom 705 just to get something better than my PL660, PL880, and Sangean ATS909x that I use on a wire strung down the fence that works OK. I got this one after researching it and the 705. I am sure I would have been very happy with the 705 but this was 1/3 the cost and transmitting isn't an interest. I got the right radio. With the static noise all but completely suppressed, it's amazing what you can hear. On the same antenna it's full quieting on this radio when I can hardly hear it on those other receivers mentioned. And the waterfall is not only attractive but very useful while surfing the bands for regular SW programs or sideband listening. A few hours charge and it goes for days. Works beautiful on my wire, but also works great with the GA-800 active loop antenna which also is self powered for outdoor mobile use. The 705 probably self adjusts a lot of the many settings to play with, but playing is fun.

An amazing little radio
This radio provides excellent shortwave and FM reception. As a veteran shortwave listener, this is one of the best radios I have owned. It is sensitive, selective and unlike other shortwave receivers has remarkable noise reduction when listening to weak stations. All important parameters such as bandwidth, RF gain, audio response and attenuation can be customized. The band scope feature is great for picking out very weak stations otherwise missed on other radios. The only downside is that the battery needs to be charged after about 15 hours of use, but this is only a minor issue.

Capable SDR Radio- receive sensitivity is not good
Capable SDR Radio- receive sensitivity is not good, with a "full-quieting" signal the audio quality is fantastic, but audio quality suffers at reduce signal levels seems like thee unit needs to have a STRONG RF signal for good audio. The nosie reduction settings are great functioning for the narrow bandwidth signals- for the cost/$$$s I expected more...

More expensive here. missing plastic in knurled knob.
I like it. It's cheaper elsewhere. One of my knurled knobs is missing the plastic. So I can't use it. Otherwise, I like it! It's pretty sensitive, and noise reduction is great. Just adding this to the fleet :) I guess I'll have to return it if I want the knobs :/ This radio isn't always convenient to use. But I enjoy using it. I have an older Malahit. The build quality on this one is really nice.
