101 Nudes: For Art Students

Not particularly valuable
Several problems with this book that, in retrospect, would make it less likely helpful for an art student. Had I had the chance to see the work in a bookstore, I would not have purchased it. The images are mostly over-exposed. As a consequence, the shadow and physical detail are lacking. Contour is lost. The compositions are random and some are repeated through the book - making it redundant. The "posing" seems equally random and does not make use of lighting to create artistically interesting compositions. The paper quality is poor, further diminishing the presentation of images for the book's apparent intended purpose (though I suspect that the non-photo paper was used to allow for affordability). With respect, I don't think this book is worthy of purchase in its current form (in my opinion).

Some flaws, but not bad
All poses in this book are of the female form, displayed in black and white, and printed in paperback on non-photo-quality paper. The author has stated that this is done to make the books more affordable to art students. Also, there are a few poses that appear more than once (not many, but a few), so the 101 images advertised is misleading. There are some very good poses here that, I think, make the book worth purchasing. However, the book's dimensions are far too small (6 x 9) compared to Mr. Malone's other publications (8 1/2 x 11). This book would be perfectly fine for improving draftsmanship and proportion, but for use in making complete works of art, it all depends on the artist. Depending on the kind of art you make, this one may not be the best choice.
