Have I stooped so low, I now review toilet seats?
So, what can you say about fitting a toilet seat? The worst part is removing the old one, unless yours is like this. With this, you press two buttons that look like hinge caps, lift, and it is off! The hinge bases have a removable cover that exposes a large bolt, which you loosen to release the compression on the plug that goes in the hole in the toilet. The whole thing then lifts out! Simple! If you DON'T have this sort, but have a bog-standard seat, you must scrabble about under the toilet trying to loosen a couple of wing nuts that are over tight and make your fingers bleed. Or it is fastened with a nut that needs a socket to undo it, and you don't have that any more.As for fitting, there is a rubber washer that fits onto the hinge base. There is also a plastic plug that fits neatly into the hole in the toilet. It's a push fit, from above, not below. You place the hinge base over the plug and insert the large screw provided into the plastic plug and almost tighten it onto the hinge base. Similarly for the other side. You will need a large cross-head screwdriver. Now the only tricky bit. Stand the toilet seat behind the hinge bases, which have a vertical column on them. Move the hinge bases so that these columns align with two slots on the seat hinge, then tighten further. The next part is hit and miss as you press the two buttons on the seat hinges and fit it onto those columns. The distances must be exactly right. Also, make sure the seat is centred on the toilet. It isn't difficult, it just needs some care. Finally, take the seat off and tighten those two screws down as hard as you dare, put the seat on again, and all is done! The soft close is very slow on this seat, which I like. The seat is quite light, too. This model is only for D toilets. Older ones take an oval seat. The bottom line is, if this seat ever comes loose, I know I will be able to tighten it, and that will not involve any swear words or broken porcelain or lying on the floor fighting with rusted wing nuts!

Good value-for-money soft close toilet seat (but staines easily!)
Good value-for-money soft close toilet seat (£40).Easy to fit for several reasons:a) Comes with top fixing hinge anchors (will not suit toilets that have small diameter fixing holes - unlikely to be an issue for this shape seat as it's for modern toilets which do have the slightly larger diameter holes);b) Large variation in hinge anchor positions so that the seat can be placed exactly where wanted;c) Hinge anchors can be hand tightened to place hinge posts in approx position, perfect alignment achieved by fitting seat temporarily onto hinge posts and pushing seat into exact position. Seat very easily removed (no tools needed) to allow the hinge anchor screws to be fully tightened.c) High grip hinge anchors so that, once tightened, they stay put.Whole job done in about 10 minutes including cleaning the toilet!Positives:Easy to fit (as detailed above)ComfortableGood soft close actionAesthetically pleasingNegatives:This is nit picking really but the seat hinges have more play than ideal. This has not affected the seats use & comfort.November 2018 Update: the seat is still working fine, BUT over time it has stained and I've found nothing the tackles the stains - for this it loses one star.

Great alternative to Jacuzzi own brand
Following an accident I was left with a broken seat for a (now obsolete) Jacuzzi Natura toilet bowl. Not wishing to replace the entire toilet I went looking for an original Jacuzzi seat to find there were very few left & the price was £160!. After reading the reviews which suggested this seat fitted a Jacuzzi Natura, I risked £30 and bought it. The summary is that is does fit (the top fix holes are 21.5cm apart on the Natura) and actually does not look out of place. If you were being picky the profile is not identical and the seat is slightly narrower (~5mm each side) than the bowl at the back. However the top fix brackets are hidden so the overall look is neat and the soft close feature is welcome. For 1/5th of the price the result is excellent.

Good quality, but be aware it stains
On the face of it, a good quality product, looks good and feels very sturdy and very easy to fit, nice soft-close mechanism, but be aware it does stain and if you use harsh chemicals (e.g. bleach) it not only doesn't remove the stains but it leaves marks from the bleach. Not the cheapest seat out there and rather disappointing that the material choice enables staining.

Roper Rhodes Royal Throne
Still can't believe that this product is supplied by a company called Bumford Heating!! Fantastic - almost as good as the Thomas Crapper story (he didn't actually invent the flush toilet) he did however invent the ballcock, an essential feature in flushing.Do treat yourself to this toilet seat, if only for the fact that you shouldn't put up with seats that bang down, and (sorry) are more often than not excellent places for nasty infections to grow. Well, you did click onto this product. If, like me you are replacing your Laufen Pro seat, and are happy to pay the £80, fine. But do be assured that this one is an excellent alternative, has the same anti-bacterial coating, closes silently and slowly, is really comfortable to actually sit on and costs around a third of the price. If, like me, you remember those awful 'seventies vinyl ones that after a while slipped to the right or left, and needed to be tightened up excessively so that the plastic screws eventually snapped off - usually at Christmas when your mother in law was using it? Those days are gone....So treat yourself. Your mother in law will approve.PAY SOME UK TAX AMAZON, WE HAVE TO.
