I ordered as outlined: a product from Barbour (from Lisburn, Co. Down, N. Ireland) weight 18, 3-ply. I presume TEX weight, so the weight in grams of 1000 metres. This weight of linen thread is excellent for stitching heavy leather. What I got were completely un-dimensioned cards of 15 metres of thread with no composition information produced by a "J. Wenzel Genuine only from the maker [sic]". The thread IS 3-ply (hoorah!) and on inspection with an electronic measuring tool, it comes out as somewhere between 17 and 19 in weight, or .55mm thickness. So hoorah again.The bottom line is, if you're looking for 18/3 thread, this is what you'll get although it won't say it on the card. It MAY be linen but it doesn't say that. If you want a genuine Belfast Linen thread, you are most probably NOT getting that. The thread is lightly waxed and sews well with a pleasantly high breaking strain.
