Q: Can this little thing really withstand the weight of the vest?

My comments are based solely on airsoft use and NOT for real world applications . The weight of a zip panel, yes. It feels as equally solid as the serup on a JPC 2.0 (without the price tag). The molle weaves in and feels plenty solid. The Idogear zip panels also have molle clip point to further help it attach to the PC for added stabilization.

Q: Will the zipper break easily?

There is currently no sign of this, YKK zippers are quite reliable.
