Good gloves - but don't last
I haven't done the scientific test of submerging my fingers for a prolonged period, but I have so far found my gloves to be waterproof - including when fishing pieces of ice out of our barely-frozen pond. The tips of my fingers were definitely submerged, albeit just for a fraction of a second. The only wetness I've encountered inside the glove has been from perspiration. The gloves are comfortable and sufficiently warm. Shop around, some places will sell a particular size/color for much cheaper. I would have preferred green or clay, but I managed to get a black pair in XL for under $13, and I couldn't pass up that deal.I am downgrading this review after a year. These gloves did not hold up as well as expected and because they do not breathe, they developed a sweat odor inside that will not go away with washing. Once the gloves have this smell, it will make your hands smell bad if you wear them even briefly.

Gloves wear out - it happens and I accept it.
I buy a new pair of these gloves at least every other year. I still rate them four stars, despite the fact that they wear out, because in the past I was buying new pairs of other brands' gloves at least every year, if not more often. I live and work on a farm, and I use these gloves in the winter when filling water troughs, hauling water buckets, draining hoses, and my hands never get wet. They're grippy enough that I can use them when training horses (they don't slip on the reins) and they're warm enough that I can teach horseback riding lessons for hours in them without getting cold.In order for them to be comfortable and breathable, the material they're made of is going to wear out. I completely accept this, and will order again since there are no other gloves on the market that keep my hands warm AND dry when I accidentally dunk my hand in a water bucket in -20ยบ windchills...

great ski gloves
I purchased these at a garden shop three years ago for skiing. I'm on the ski patrol which requires often carrying heavy equipment, shoveling, moving signs and other work. Regular ski gloves get easily torn apart when using them for real work (e.g. not just holding a ski pole in your hands) and leather gloves get wet. I use these gloves every day I ski and my hands never get wet. I have to take my gloves on and off many times a day. These gloves are always dry and comfortable each time I put them on, so they definitely are not wet. The outside of the gloves are becoming a bit frayed, but given the work I do they have held up better than other gloves at many times the price. The closure leaves a bit of the back of my hand exposed which I thought might be a problem, but it never has. I'm buying a second pair just in case I lose these.Update: January 26, 2014This is the only pair of gloves I have used for skiing for 5 years. The right hand glove is now torn a bit on one finger. This is the hand I use to carry my skis, so the ski edges have been hard on that glove. The other glove is still in very good condition. The outside of the glove will get slightly wet in wet conditions, but the inside of the glove still is dry. I still believe these are the best ski gloves I have ever owned in over 50 years of skiing. The newer version of the glove covers the gap on the back of the hand, so now they deserve a 5. I'm going to buy another pair.

Outstanding outdoor gloves for winter work
January 2011.I brought these gloves because I have a large snow blower for a large yard that has heated hand grips. The problem is that the heat melts the snow when I work and my gloves get soaked. I was looking for a pair of gloves that would hold up in the weather and prevent my hands from getting cold and wet.I've used these gloves in two heavy snows and they've worked excellently. My hands have stayed dry both times. This means that not only did they prevent melted snow from getting in but allowed my working hands to breath so that they wouldn't sweat up.I will try to write later and let you know how they hold up. Whether they continue to be waterproof and how rugged they remain with their reinforced palms and fingers.UPDATE - After about 6-7 times use in the snow the waterproofing that is used on the gloves must have worn off. The gloves are no longer waterproof. Not even water resistant. I will need to buy a water resistant spray-on to revive them. I am lowering my rating.

Love these gloves
I love these gloves and the summer-weight ones from West County as well. In the fall (and into the winter) I've used these gloves in the cold when working with compost, harvesting some crops in the cold (eg, carrots, leeks) and a wide variety of other things outside. These gloves offer great protection, are water proof (unlike their summer-weight gloves), and provide enough insulation for moderately cold days.Note that these gloves run small. I typically wear "Large" sized gloves but need "Extra Large" when buying from West County, for all their gloves.Update: March 2013I've been using these gloves outdoors all winter, moving rocks and other items, raking, working with compost, etc. They've still got a lot of life in them. Perhaps I lucked out or others had bad luck, but these gloves are rugged enough to handle significant work all winter long.Update 2: September 2013Been using these gloves much of the summer, especially when working with raspberry canes. They're still great and the only problem is that one of the tabs for pulling the glove on tore off.

overpiced. so so qualty.
Dissapointed with these gloves. They're rather expensive for what they are. The quality just isn't there. I didn't find them to be water proof either.

this pair seems a bit less sturdy but so far (couple years/winters) so good
Solid water/weather proof gloves in use in the rainy Pacific NW. My first pair lasted several years...however, this pair seems a bit less sturdy but so far (couple years/winters) so good! They really do keep my hands dry, warm and they breathe well enough to stave off sweaty hands.

Works for me.
I'm on my second pair after many years with the first. These have warn well for me and have been great in keeping my hands dry. Very satisfied.
