Works every time (once you get the hang of it)
Well made and works perfectlyTook we a while to perfect the technique. Best way: Hold the tube upright in your fist against a hard surface, then bang your other hand down hard on the piston, grab it, and pull it out all in one fluid motion.

Bushcrafttools fire piston - is it any good?
Great little piece of kitIt's beautifully made - I got the green anodised one and it looks gorgeous.Everything is in one place; there's storage for lube for the rubber washer; petroleum jelly (aka Vaseline) in one end, char cloth in the other end and a small firesteel in the piston itself. There's 4 rubber washers included; I've just asked bushcrafttools about the washers for spares just in case, as they're not simple basic O-rings. I'd rather have ten spare that I'll never use than four that I might burn through and find I'm stuck.Easy to use once you know how and what to do.There's instructions on a fold out card and a pouch.Only negative I can think of is that the pouch can be about an inch or so longer so it fully encloses the assembled unit. You've got to pull the piston apart into two pieces for it to fit properly into the pouch. So, you're obliged to wipe all the lube off the washer and rod before putting it away or you'll eventually one day find you'll be wondering why the whole world is covered with Vaseline.Other than that minor little niggle I can't recommend it highly enough. Is it worth it?Yes!As an out of five star rating? It's somewhere between 4 and 5 - only being let down by the slightly undersized pouch

practice makes perfect
needs practice to work, must have good char cloth (100% cotton) and don't tighten the end screw for the rubber seal to much,if a complaint or disappointment with the the item was needed,,,,( which is meant to be constructive) replacing the rubber seal on the plunger is difficult, could be made much simpler, but once you get over these problems, piston works fine, and is reliable.....thanks trevor durrant

Good value fire piston.
Great fire piston. Easy to master and a good source of fire. Better with the leather washer. It gives you a tighter fit and so making it work better.
