What kind of sand will i need

I think you should google "how to choose aquarium substrate". I'm far from an expert but many factors go into choosing like: is your tank freshwater or saltwater, do your fish need to burrow, do your fish like to sift the substrate, are you going to keep plants in the tank. Once you set up a tank, the substrate will probably be the hardest thing to change. Good luck!

How much & big is 5 lbs?

I’ve bought about 5-6 separate 5 pound boxes. Each box holds about 5-7 medium size rocks. 4-7 inches in size. Great rock to scape with easy to work with.

Is this real limestone? Im hoping it will help raise the ph and harden the water in my aquarium

Yes, it's oolitic limestone, they just cut it to make the stax shapes.

How many boxes are good for 12 gallons?

If there are no other rocks already in the tank, I would use 2-3 boxes. It is better to have extras than look barren. I supplemented my 55 gallon tank with just one box but I had four large rocks in already.
